I am happy to share a free crochet pattern for a very simple single crochet mesh stitch coaster. It is a perfect quick project for beginners because you only need to know how to make a chain and a single crochet. This coaster looks the same on both sides.
You can also take a look at my other patterns for coasters: a simple crochet coaster Suzette, a crochet crunch stitch coaster, a reversible crochet mug rug and others.
Good luck!

Notes
The size of my coaster is 8.0 x 8.0 cm. You will be working in rows. This pattern uses the single crochet mesh stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch. It consists of chains and single crochets. Please note that you should make single crochets in the single crochets of the previous row.
This stitch is reversible, so the coaster looks great from both sides.
Pattern
Start by chaining 26 (you can adjust the size by chaining more or less, just make sure that you have an even number of chains).
Row 1: Work in the back of the chain. In the second chain from your hook make a sc. Then ch 1. *Skip one stitch and make a sc in the next st, ch 1*, rep * * until the end of the row. The last stitch of the row should be a sc.
Row 2-24: ch 1, make a single crochet in the very first stitch (in the single crochet of the previous row), chain one. *Skip one stitch and make a sc in the next st, ch 1*, rep * * until the end of the row. The last stitch of the row should be a sc.
Fasten off.
