Single crochet back loop only (sc-blo)

This crochet stitch tutorial shows how to make a single crochet back loop only (sc-blo). I use this stitch in my crochet infinity scarf Calypso, alpine stitch pouch, small alpine stitch bag and other projects.

This stitch has a very beautiful texture and it stretches too!

Row 1

1. Start by chaining any number of chains. You will start working in the second chain from your hook.

2. So, make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Continue making single crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

4. At the end of the row chain one.

Row 2

5. Turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch. You will start working in the first stitch.

6. You will have to work only in the back loop of the “v”.

7. So, insert your hook grabbing only the back loop of the first stitch.

8. Yarn over.

9. Pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.

10. Yarn over.

11. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have made a single crochet back loop only!

12. For the next stitch you have to work in the same way: insert your hook grabbing just the back loop.

13. So, make another single crochet back loop only.

14. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2.
