In this free step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the simple daisy crochet stitch, working in rows and working in rounds. This stitch is a solid crochet stitch. It is also a reversible crochet stitch that looks the same on both sides (when worked in rows). It creates dense, durable fabric and works great for potholders, washcloths, decorative pillow covers, laptop sleeves, baskets, scarves, blankets and other projects that need warmth, structure, and durability.
This crochet stitch tutorial includes detailed photo instructions. The simple daisy stitch is a repeat of one row or one round. The tutorial below shows how to make this stitch.
The simple daisy crochet stitch looks different depending on whether you work in rows or in rounds. Personally, I prefer how it looks working in rounds. However, both versions are beautiful.
Materials and tools
Yarn: For this tutorial I use Hjertegarn DIAMOND mercerized cotton 100% 8/4 50g yarn, color: 3304 (lilac). However, you can use your favorite yarn depending on the crochet project.
Hook: I use a 2.0 mm hook. If you are using a different yarn, choose the hook size that is recommended on your yarn label.

Round base
1. Start by making a round base. It should have an odd number of stitches. Alternatively, if you are making, for example, a cowl, chain any odd number of chains and join with a slip stitch to the beginning of the chain.
Round 1
2. Chain three. You will work in the second and third chain, then skip one stitch and work in the next one.
3. So, insert you hook in the second chain from your hook and yarn over.
4. Pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook. Next you will work in the next chain.
5. So, insert your hook in the next chain and yarn over.
6. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook. Next you will skip one stitch and work in the next one.
7. So, skip one stitch, insert you hook in the next stitch and yarn over.
8. Pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.
9. Yarn over.
10. Pull the yarn through all loops on your hook.
11. Yarn over and pull the yarn through to close the daisy stitch.
12. Next you will work in the center of the previous daisy stitch, in the last stitch where you have just worked in, then skip one stitch and work in the next one.
13. So, insert your hook in the center of the previous daisy stitch and yarn over.
14. Pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.
15. Then insert you hook in the last stitch where you have worked in and yarn over.
16. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
17. Skip one stitch, insert your hook in the next stitch and yarn over.
18. Pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.
19. Yarn over.
20. Pull the yarn through all loops on your hook.
21. Chain one.
22. Make the next stitch in the same way as before.
23. Continue working in the same way until the end of the round.
24. Don’t close the last stitch with chain one.
25. Insert your hook in the first stitch of this round.
26. Yarn over and pull the yarn through to make a slip stitch.
Round 2
27. Chain three. You will work in the second chain from your hook, in the center of the daisy stitch one round below and in the center of the next one.
28. So, insert your hook in the second chain from your hook, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.
29. Insert your hook in the center of the daisy stitch one round below, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
30. Insert your hook in the center of the next daisy stitch, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.
31. Yarn over.
32. Pull the yarn through all loops on your hook. Then chain one to close the stitch.
33. Next you will work in the center of the daisy stitch that you have just made, in the center of the daisy stitch one round below and in the center of the next daisy stitch.
34. So, insert your hook in the center of the stitch that you have just made, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.
35. Then insert your hook in the center of the stitch that is one round below, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
36. Insert your hook in the center of the next daisy stitch in the previous round, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.
37. Yarn over.
38. Pull the yarn through all loops on your hook.
39. Chain one to close the stitch.
40. Then make the next stitch in the same way.
41. Continue working in the same way until the end of the round.
42. Don’t chain one to close the last stitch.
43. At the end of the round join with a slip stitch. For the rest of the pattern repeat round 2.

12. Yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.
13. Insert your hook in the last stitch where you worked in, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
14. Then skip one stitch and insert your hook in the next one, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.
15. Yarn over and pull the yarn through all loops on your hook.
16. Chain one to close the stitch. To make the next daisy stitch, you will work in the center of the daisy stitch that you have just made, the last stitch where you worked in, then skip one stitch, and work in the next stitch.
17. So, make the next daisy stitch in the same way as before.
18. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. Don’t close the last stitch by chaining one.
19. At the end of the row chain three.
Row 2
20. Turn your work around. You will work in the second chain from your hook, in the center of the last daisy stitch in the previous row and in the center of the next one.
21. So, insert your hook in the second chain from your hook, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.
22. Insert your hook in the center of the daisy stitch that is one row below, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
23. Insert your hook in the center of the next daisy stitch in the previous row, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.
24. Yarn over and pull the yarn through all loops on your hook.
25. Chain one to close the stitch. You will make the next stitch working in the center of the daisy stitch that you have just made, in the center of the daisy stitch that is one row below and in the center of the next one.
26. So, insert your hook in the center of the daisy stitch that you have just made, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.
27. Insert your hook in the center of the daisy stitch that is one row below, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
28. Then insert your hook in the center of the next daisy stitch, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.
29. Yarn over and pull the yarn through all loops on your hook. Chain one.
30. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. To make the last daisy stitch of this row, you will work in the center of the daisy stitch you have just made, in the center of the daisy stitch one row below and in the last stitch of this row.
31. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2.
