In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the diagonal shell mesh stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes detailed photo instructions. Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of twelve plus two. You will start working in the second chain from your hook.

2. So, make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Chain three.

4. Skip two stitches and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

5. Chain three.

6. Skip two stitches and make a single crochet in the next stitch.

7. Then repeat. Chain three, skip two stitches and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

8. Chain three skip two stitches and make a single crochet in the next stitch.

9. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. The row should end with a single crochet.

Row 2

10. Chain six and turn your work around.

11. Make a single crochet in the double crochet of the previous row.

12. Then make five double crochets in the next single crochet of the previous row.

13. Make a single crochet in the next double crochet.

14. Chain three.

15. Make a double crochet in the next single crochet.

16. Chain three.

17. Make a single crochet in the next double crochet.

18. Then repeat. Make five double crochets in the next single crochet and a single crochet in the next double crochet.

19. Chain three, make a double crochet in the next single crochet, chain three and make a single crochet in the next double crochet.

20. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

21. At the end of the row chain three as usually.

22. Then make a double crochet in the last stitch (in the single crochet of the previous row).

Row 3

23. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

24. Make a single crochet in the first stitch.

25. Chain three.

26. Make a double crochet in the next single crochet of the previous row.

27. Chain three.

28. Then make a single crochet in the third double crochet out of five.

29. Chain three, make a double crochet in the next single crochet, chain three, make a single crochet in the next double crochet.

30. Chain three, make a double crochet in the next single crochet, chain three and make a single crochet in the third double crochet.

31. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. At the end of the row chain three as usually.

32. Then make a single crochet in the third chain of the turning chain.

Row 4

33. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

34. Make two double crochets in the very first stitch.

35. Make a single crochet in the double crochet of the previous row.

36. Chain three and make a double crochet in the next single crochet.

37. Chain three and make a single crochet in the double crochet of the previous row.

38. Then make five double crochets in the next single crochet.

39. Make a single crochet in the next double crochet, chain three, make a double crochet in the next single crochet, chain three, make a single crochet in the next double crochet.

40. Then make five double crochets in the next single crochet and a single crochet in the next double crochet.

41. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

42. At the end of the row make three double crochets in the last stitch.

Row 5

43. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

44. Make a single crochet in the first stitch.

45. Chain three and make a double crochet in the next single crochet.

46. Chain three and make a single crochet in the next double crochet.

47. Chain three, make a double crochet in the next single crochet, chain three, make a single crochet in the third double crochet.

48. Chain three, make a double crochet in the next single crochet, chain three, make a single crochet in the next double crochet.

49. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. At the end of the row chain three as usually.

50. Then make a single crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.
