Double crochet (dc)

This crochet stitch tutorial shows how to make a double crochet (dc). It is also one of the main stitches in crocheting. I use double crochets in my cross stitch dishcloth, easy mini pillow, spider coasters and many other projects. This stitch can also be used as a part of other stitches, for example the v stitch (v-st).

The texture of this stitch turns out dense, but the fabric is still soft. It works up quite fast and it is very easy to make.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining any number of chains. You will start working in the fourth chain from your hook. The loop that is on your hook does not count as a stitch.

2. So, yarn over.

3. Insert your hook in the fourth chain from your hook.

4. Yarn over.

5. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

6. Yarn over.

7. Then pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

8. Yarn over.

9. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made a double crochet!

10. Make another double crochet in the next stitch.

11. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

12. At the end of the row chain three.

Row 2

13. Turn your work around. Chain three counts as a double crochet. You will start working in the second stitch.

14. So, make a double crochet in the second stitch.

15. Continue making double crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

16. Make the last stitch in the turning chain of the previous row. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2.
