In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the lacy striped popcorn stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes detailed photo instructions. For this crochet stitch you should know how to make a single crochet and a double crochet. The tutorial below shows how to make a closed popcorn stitch. The lacy striped popcorn stitch is a repeat of four rows. The fabric turns out lacy, and it has a beautiful texture.
For this tutorial I use Hjertegarn DIAMOND mercerized cotton 100 % 8/4 50 g, color: 3304 (lilac), and a 2.0 mm hook.

Photo instructions for the lacy striped popcorn stitch
Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of six plus two. You will start working in the second chain from your hook.

2. So, make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Continue making single crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.
Row 2

4. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

5. Make a single crochet in the first stitch.

6. Chain three. Next you will skip two stitches and make a closed popcorn stitch in the next stitch.

7. So, skip two stitches and make five double crochets in the next stitch.

8. Take out the hook of the current loop and insert it in the top of the first double crochet from the back towards you.

9. Grab the loop of the last double crochet.

10. Pull the yarn through.

11. The popcorn will pop out on the other side of your work.

12. Chain one to close the popcorn. You have just made a closed popcorn stitch!

13. Chain three, skip two stitches and make a single crochet in the next stitch.

14. Then repeat. Chain three.

15. Skip two stitches and make a closed popcorn stitch in the next stitch.

16. Chain three, skip two stitches and make a single crochet in the next stitch.

17. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. The row should end with a single crochet.
Row 3

18. Chain five and turn your work around.

19. Next you will work in the top of the closed popcorn stitch.

20. So, make a single crochet in the closed popcorn stitch.

21. Chain two and make a double crochet in the next single crochet.

22. Chain two and make a single crochet in the next closed popcorn stitch.

23. Chain two and make a double crochet in the next single crochet.

24. Then repeat. Chain two and make a single crochet in the next closed popcorn stitch.

25. Chain two and make a double crochet in the next single crochet.

26. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. The row should end with a double crochet.
Row 4

27. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

28. Make a single crochet in the first stitch.

29. Make two single crochets in the next chain two space.

30. Make a single crochet in the next single crochet.

31. Make two single crochets in the next chain two space.

32. Make a single crochet in the next double crochet.

33. Then repeat. Make two single crochets in the next chain two space and a single crochet in the next stitch.

34. Make two single crochets in the next chain two space and a single crochet in the next stitch.

35. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

36. At the end of the row make three single crochets in the turning chain space.
Row 5

37. Chain one and turn your work around.

38. Make a single crochet in the first stitch.

39. Continue making single crochets in every stitch until the end of the row. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.
