Materials

  • Yarn: any thin yarn will work. I used Järbo 8/4 100% Cotton Mercerized & Gassed 50 g yarn, color: 32018 (linen).
  • Hook: as suggested on your yarn label. I used hook size 2.0.

Notes

The size of my coaster is 9.0 x 9.0 cm. You will work in rows. This pattern uses the triad stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch. It is a repeat of two rows. The size of the coaster can be easily adjusted by chaining more or less in the beginning (keep in mind that it should be an even number of chains) and repeating rows 2 and 3 until you will form a nice rectangle.

Pattern

Start by chaining 26 (you can adjust the size by chaining more or less, but it should be an even number of chains).

Row 1: sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, sc in every st until the end of the row.

Row 2: ch 4, triad st working in the 2nd, the 3rd and the 4th st, ch 1, *triad st, ch 1*, rep ** until the end of the row. At the end of the row make a dc in the last st.

Row 3: ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in the 1st st, *sc in the ch1 space, sc in the triad st of the prev row*, rep ** until the end of the row. At the end of the row make a sc in the turning chain space and a sc in the turning chain.

Row 4-15: repeat row 2 and 3.

Fasten off.
