Sieve stitch

In this step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the sieve stitch. The sieve crochet stitch consists of single crochets and chains, so it is a great stitch for beginners. This stitch is a repeat of two rows.

Photo instructions for the sieve crochet stitch

Row 1

1. Start by making an even number of chains. You will start working in the second chain from your hook.

2. So, make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Then make single crochets in each stitch until the end of the row.

4. At the end of the row chain one.

Row 2

5. Turn your work around. You will work in the first stitch.

6. So, make a single crochet in the first stitch.

7. Then chain one.

8. Skip one stitch and make a single crochet.

9. Keep working in the same way until the end of the row: chain one, skip one stitch and make a single crochet.

10. You will end the row by making a single crochet in the last stitch.

11. At the end of the row chain one.

Row 3

12. Turn your work around. Now you will work only in the chain one spaces of the previous row.

13. So, make a single crochet in the chain one space of the previous row.

14. Then make one more single crochet in the same chain one space.

15. Skip a single crochet in the previous row and make two single crochets in the next chain one space.

16. Keep working in the same way until the end of the row.

17. At the end of the row make one single crochet in the last stitch, i.e., in the single crochet of the previous row. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2 and row 3.
