The arrow stitch

In this step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the arrow stitch. The arrow crochet stitch consists of chains, single, double and treble crochets and it is a repeat of two rows. This stitch has a very pronounced texture and looks great! If you are a beginner, it might seems a bit tricky how to make treble crochets two together in the beginning. However, I encourage you to try making this beautiful stitch and I hope that my detailed photo tutorial will help you along the way.

For this tutorial I use Järbo 8/4 100% Cotton Mercerized & Gassed 50 g yarn, color: 32032 (frosty green), and a 2.0 mm hook.

Photo instructions for the arrow crochet stitch

Row 1

1. Start by chaining multiples of four.

2. In the second chain from your hook make a single crochet.

3. Make two more single crochets in the next two stitches.

4. Then chain one.

5. Skip one stitch and make three single crochets in the next three stitches.

6. Work in the same way until the end of the row: chain one, skip one stitch and make three single crochets.

7. In the end of the row chain three.

Row 2

8. Turn your work around. Chain three that you have just made counts as the first stitch. So, you will start working in the second stitch.

9. Make two double crochets in the next two stitches and then make a double crochet in the chain one space.

10. Work in the same way until the end of the row: make three double crochets in the next three stitches, then make one double crochet in the chain one space.

Row 3

11. At the end of row 2 chain one and turn your work around

12. Chain one does not count as a stitch, so you will start working in the first stitch. Make a single crochet.

13. Next you will have to make a treble crochet in the chain one space of row 1. So, yarn over twice.

14. Then insert your hook in the chain one space from below like it is shown in the picture.

15. Yarn over.

16. Pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook. Yarn over.

17. Pull the yarn through the first two loops. Now you have three loops on your hook.

18. Then yarn over and pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

19. Yarn over and pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made a treble crochet.

20. Then you have to skip one stitch and work in the next one.

21. So, make a single crochet.

22. Chain one.

23. Skip one stitch and make a single crochet.

24. Then start making another treble crochet in the same stitch where you have made the first one, but don’t complete it, stop when you have two loops on your hook.

25. Then start making one more treble crochet in the next chain one space of row 1. Stop when you have three loops on your hook.

26. Then yarn over and pull the yarn through all three loops on your hook. You have just made a treble crochet two together.

27. Then skip one stitch and work in the next one.

28. So, make a single crochet, chain one, skip one stitch and make a single crochet.

29. Keep working in the same way until the end of the row: make a treble crochet two together in the previous and in the next chain one space in row 1, then skip one stitch, make a single crochet, chain one, skip one stitch and make a single crochet. At the end of the row make a treble crochet in the previous chain one space of row 1.

30. Make a single crochet in the chain three of the previous row.

Row 4

31. For the rest of the pattern you will work in a similar way as in rows 2 and 3. So, chain three (it counts as a stitch) and turn your work around.

32. Then make two double crochets in the next two stitches and a double crochet in the chain one space of the previous row.

33. Work in the same way until the end of the row: make three double crochets in the next three stitches, then make one double crochet in the chain one space. At the end of the row chain one.

Row 5

34. Then turn your work around and make a single crochet in the first stitch. Next you will make a treble crochet in the chain one space below the row of double crochets.

35. So, insert your hook in the top of the double crochet in row 2.

36. Complete the treble crochet.

37. Then skip one stitch, make a single crochet, chain one, skip one stitch and make another single crochet

38. Next make a treble crochet two together working in the previous and in the next chain one space.

39. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. At the end of the row make a treble crochet in the previous chain one space and then make a single crochet in the chain three of the previous row. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 4 and 5.
