The extended half double crochet

In this step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the extended half double crochet. It is a quite nice variation of this simple stitch and it works up pretty easy. If you are not familiar with the usual half double crochet, here you can take a look at a detailed tutorial. For this stitch the fabric turns out dense, but not very thick. I hope that you will give it a try 🙂

For this tutorial I use Hjertegarn DIAMOND mercerized cotton 100% 8/4 50 g yarn, color: 3304 (lilac), and a 2.0 mm hook.

Crochet tutorial: The extended half double crochet

Row 1

1. Start by chaining any number of chains. You will start working in the fourth chain from your hook.

2. So, yarn over.

3. Insert your hook in the fourth chain from your hook.

4. Yarn over.

5. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

6. Yarn over.

7. Pull the yarn through the first loop on your hook. Now you have three loops on your hook.

8. Yarn over.

9. Pull the yarn through all three loops on your hook. You have just made the extended half double crochet!

10. Then make another one in the next stitch.

11. Continue working in every stitch until the end of the row.

12. At the end of the row chain two.

Row 2

13. Turn your work around. Chain two does not count as a stitch, so you will start working in the very first stitch.

14. So, make an extended half double crochet in the first stitch.

15. Continue working in every stitch until the end of the row.

16. The last stitch should be made in the turning chain three of the previous row (for the rest of the pattern you will not work in the turning chain).

Row 3

17. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2. At the end of each row remember not to work in the turning chain.

Finished extended half double crochet

18. Done!
