The larksfoot stitch

In this step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the larksfoot crochet stitch. This stitch is quite easy to make. For the larksfoot crochet stich you will need at least two colors of yarn. This stich looks very similar on both sides.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining multiples of four plus one.

2. In the fourth chain from your hook make a double crochet.

3. Then make a double crochet in the next stitch.

4. Chain one.

5. Skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

6. Then make two more double crochets in the next two stitches.

7. Chain one, skip one stitch and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

8. Work in the same way until the end of the row. The row will end with three double crochets.

Row 2

9. At the end of the row chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a double crochet, so you will start working in the second stitch.

10. Make two double crochets in the next two stitches.

11. Then chain one.

12. Skip the chain one space in the previous row and make three double crochets in the three double crochets of the previous row.

13. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row: chain one, skip the chain one space in the previous row and make three double crochets in the three double crochets of the previous row.

14. At the end of the row you have to change yarn color. You don’t have to cut the first color yarn if you want to carry it on a side. So, chain one with the second color yarn.

15. Pull the end of the first color yarn to tighten up and secure the second color yarn.

Row 3

16. Then chain four and turn your work around.

17. Skip the second stitch and make a double crochet in the third double crochet of the previous row.

18. Next you will make a long double crochet in the chain one space two rows below. So, yarn over.

19. Insert your hook in the chain one space two rows below.

20. Yarn over.

21. Pull the yarn through. Make sure to make a long loop. Now you have three loops on your hook.

22. Yarn over.

23. Pull the yarn through the first two loops. Now you have two loops on your hook.

24. Yarn over.

25. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made a long double crochet!

26. Then make a double crochet in the next stitch.

27. Chain one.

28. Skip one stitch and make a double crochet.

29. Then make a long double crochet in the chain one space two rows below.

30. Make a double crochet in the next stitch.

31. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row until you have two stitches left.

32. Then chain one.

33. Skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the turning chain.

Row 4

34. Chain four and turn your work around.

35. Skip the chain one space in the previous row make a double crochet in the next stitch.

36. Then make two more double crochets in the next two stitches.

37. Chain one.

38. Skip the chain one space in the previous row and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

39. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row until only the turning chain is left.

40. Then chain one.

41. Make a double crochet in the third chain of the turning chain.

42. Then change yarn color again.

Row 5

43. Chain three and turn your work around. You will start working in the chain one space two rows below.

44. So, make a long double crochet in the chain one space two rows below.

45. Then make a double crochet in the next stitch.

46. Chain one.

47. Skip one stitch and make a double crochet.

48. Then make a long double crochet in the chain one space two rows below.

49. Make a double crochet in the next stitch.

50. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row until only the turning chain is left.

51. Then make a long double crochet in the chain one space two rows below.

52. Pull out that turning chain if it is hiding behind the long double crochet that you have just made and make a double crochet in the third chain of the turning chain.

Row 6

53. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a double crochet.

54. Then make two double crochets in the next two stitches.

55. Chain one.

56. Skip the chain one space of the previous row and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

57. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 3-6.
