Materials

  • Yarn: any thin yarn will work. I used Järbo 8/4 100% Cotton “Mercerized & Gassed” 50 g (linen).
  • Hook: as suggested on your yarn label. I used hook size 2.0.

Notes

The size of my coaster is 9.0 x 9.0 cm. You will be working in rows. This pattern uses the triad stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch. It is a repeat of two rows. The size of the coaster can be easily adjusted by chaining more or less in the beginning (keep in mind that it should be an even number of chains) and repeating rows 2 and 3 until you will form a nice rectangle.

Pattern

Start by chaining 26 (you can adjust the size by chaining more or less, but it should be an even number of chains).

Row 1: In the third chain from your hook make a sc (in the back of the chain). Then keep making scs until the end of the row.

Row 2: ch 4 (it counts as a st), *make tr st in the next st, ch 1*, rep * * until the end of the row. Make a dc in the last st of the row.

Row 3: ch 1, sc in the very first st, *sc in the ch1 space of the prev row, sc in the next st (the triad st of the prev row)*, rep * * until the end of the row. Complete the row by making a sc in the ch4 space formed by the turning chain of the prev row, then make a sc in the third chain of the turning chain.

Row 4-15: repeat row 2 and 3.

Fasten off.
