This crochet tutorial is for making an increase (inc). If you want to make an increase, just make two (or more, depending on your pattern) stitches in one stitch of the previous row.
Below it is shown how to make a single crochet increase (sc inc). I use single crochet increases for starting a round base, for example, in my spider coasters and many other patterns.

Photo instructions
Round 1

1. Start by making a magic (adjustable) ring and eight single crochets in the magic ring. You will start working in the first single crochet of the round (here you are working in continuous rounds).
Round 2

2. So, make a single crochet in the top of the single crochet of the previous round.

3. Then make the second single crochet in the same stitch where you have just worked in. You have just made a single crochet increase!

4. Make two more single crochets in the next stitch.

5. Continue making single crochet increases in every stitch until the end of the round. Done!
