Here are two free crochet patterns for spider coasters. These two coasters were inspired by autumn colors and spider nets. I made two versions that, in a way, are similar, but the middle of each coaster differs slightly. Choose the one you like more, or just make both! I named them small and large coasters, but they are not much different in size; both fit a standard cup perfectly. This is also a great Halloween crochet project. 🙂

Spider coaster (small)

Materials

  • Yarn: any lace thread will work.
  • Hook: I use a 1.25 mm hook. If you are using a different yarn, choose the hook size that is recommended on your yarn label.

Abbreviations (US terms)

Notes

You will be working in rounds. The size of the small coaster is 10×10 cm.

Spider coasters

Pattern

Begin with an adjustable (magic) ring.

Round 1: make 8 sc in the ring, join to the first sc with a sl st.

Round 2: ch 4 and make 1 dc in the first st (this is your first v-st), then ch 1. *v-st in the next st, ch 1*; repeat ** 7 times (until the end of the rnd), join to the first st with a sl st.

Round 3: ch 3 (this is your first dc in your dc2 cluster), make a second dc in the 1 ch space of the prev rnd and ch 2. *make a dc2 cluster in the one ch space of the prev rnd, ch 2*; repeat ** 15 times (until the end of the rnd), join with a sl st.

Round 4: ch 3, make a dc in the dc2 cluster of the prev rnd, ch 2. *make a dc inc in the dc2 cluster of the prev round, ch 2*; repeat ** 15 times (until the end of the rnd), join with a sl st.

Round 5: ch 3, make a dc in the second dc of the previous round, ch 3. *make 2 dc in each dc of the prev round, ch 3*; repeat ** 15 times (until the end of the rnd), join with a sl st.

Round 6: ch 3, make a dc in the second dc of the previous round, ch 4. *make 2 dc in each dc of the prev round, ch 4*; repeat ** 15 times (until the end of the rnd), join with a sl st.

Round 7: ch 3, make a dc in the second dc of the previous round, make 4 dc in the 4 ch space of the prev rnd. *make 2 dc in each dc of the prev round, make 4 dc in the 4 ch space of the prev rnd*; repeat ** 15 times (until the end of the rnd), join with a sl st.

Round 8: ch 4, make a sc in the second dc of the prev rnd. Make 4 sc in each of the 4 dc in the prev rnd. *make 1 sc in the next dc of the prev rnd, ch3 open p, 5 sc in the next 5 dc of the prev rnd*; repeat ** 15 times (until the end of the rnd), join with a sl st. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Round 5: ch 3, dc in the second dc of the prev rnd, 3 dc in the 2 ch space of the prev rnd. *2 dc in the following 2 sts, 3 dc in the 2 ch space of the prev rnd*, repeat ** 15 times, connect with a sl st.

Round 6: ch 3, dc in the second dc of the prev rnd, ch 4. *skip 3 sts of the prev rnd, 2 dc in the two following st*; repeat ** 15 times, connect with a sl st.

Round 7: ch 3, dc in the second dc of the prev rnd, 4 dc in the 4 ch space of the prev rnd. *2 dc in the two following sts of the prev round, 4 dc in the 4 ch space of the prev rnd*; repeat ** 15 times (until the end of the rnd), join with a sl st.

Round 8: ch 4, sc in the second dc of the prev rnd, 1 sc in each of the 4 dc of the prev rnd. *1 sc in the next dc of the prev rnd, ch3 open p, 5 sc in the next 5 dc of the prev rnd*; repeat ** 15 times (until the end of the rnd), join with a sl st. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
