Cross stitch double crochet (cross-st-dc)

This crochet stitch tutorial shows how to make a cross stitch double crochet (cross-st-dc) or a double crochet cross stitch. Is is quite simple and consists of two double crochets (dc). I use this stitch in my cross stitch dishcloth.

For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: blue agave, and a 2.0 mm hook.

Take a look at my other crochet stitch tutorials here.

Good luck!

Photo instructions

Row 1

1. Start by chaining an odd number of chains. You will start working in the second chain from your hook.

2. So, make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Continue making single crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

4. At the end of the row chain three.

Row 2

5. Turn your work around. Chain three counts as a double crochet. You will start working in the third stitch.

6. So, skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the third stitch of the previous row.

7. Next you will make a double crochet working in the previous stitch that you have just skipped. So, yarn over.

8. Insert your hook in the previous stitch and yarn over.

9. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook. Make sure that the loop that you have just made is slightly longer than usually.

10. Yarn over.

11. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

12. Yarn over.

13. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made a cross stitch double crochet!

14. Make another cross stitch double crochet working in the next two stitches. So, skip one stitch and make a double crochet.

15. Then make a double crochet in the previous stitch.

16. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row until you have one stitch left.

17. Then make a double crochet in the last stitch.

18. Chain one.

Row 3

19. Turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch. You will start working in the first stitch.

20. So, make a single crochet in the first stitch.

21. Continue making single crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

22. Make the last single crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2 and 3.

Finished cross stitch double crochet

23. Done!

Hi! The yarn that I am using for this tutorial is from a Danish store Søstrene Grene (though they have their stores in several countries). It is called “Anna & Clara” 100% Cotton 8/4 and it is organically produced, color: Milky Blue 🙂
