In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the simple cupcake stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes detailed photo instructions. For this crochet stitch you should know how to make a double crochet. The simple cupcake stitch is a repeat of four rows. It is a beautiful multicolor crochet stitch that is easy to make. The fabric turns out light and lacy.

Photo instructions for the simple cupcake stitch
Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of four plus one. You will start working in the sixth chain from your hook.

2. So, make a double crochet in the sixth chain from your hook.

3. Chain two.

4. Make a double crochet in the same stitch.

5. Skip three stitches and make a double crochet.

6. Chain two.

7. Make another double crochet in the same stitch.

8. Then repeat. Skip three stitches and in the next stitch make a double crochet, chain two and another double crochet.

9. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row until you have three stitches left.

10. Then skip two stitches and make a double crochet in the last stitch.

11. Next change yarn color to curry. So, chain one with curry yarn.

12. Pull the end of the dusty pink yarn to tighten up the curry yarn. Now the curry yarn is ready to use.
Row 2

13. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

14. Make four double crochets in the next chain two space.

15. Then repeat. Make four double crochets in the next chain two space.

16. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

17. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain.

18. Change yarn color to dusty pink.
Row 3

19. Chain four and turn your work around.

20. Make a double crochet in between the first and the second double crochet.

21. In between the next two groups of double crochets make a double crochet, chain two and another double crochet.

22. Then repeat. In between the next two groups of double crochets make a double crochet, chain two and another double crochet.

23. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

24. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain space.

25. Chain one and make another double crochet in the same turning chain space.

26. Change yarn color to curry.
Row 4

27. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

28. Make two double crochets in the chain one space.

29. Make four double crochets in the next chain two space.

30. Then repeat. Make four double crochets in the next chain two space.

31. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

32. At the end of the row make three double crochets in the turning chain space.

33. Change yarn color to dusty pink.
Row 5

34. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

35. In between the first two groups of double crochets make a double crochet, chain two and another double crochet.

36. Then repeat. In between the next two groups of double crochets make a double crochet, chain two and another double crochet.

37. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

38. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain space. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5 changing yarn color every row.
