Crochet coaster Mia

Here you can find a free pattern for a crochet coaster Mia. This pattern uses the side saddle stitch and has a very nice texture. Moreover, the coaster is reversible and looks the same on both sides.

It is not that complicated to make the coaster, you just need to learn how to make a double crochet four together if you haven’t tried it before. Photo instructions show how to make this coaster step-by-step, including a double crochet four together. So, don’t hesitate even if you are just a beginner. It will be a great way to practice the saddle stitch.

Materials

  • Yarn: any thin yarn will work. I used Hjertegarn DIAMOND mercerized cotton 100% 8/4 50g, color: 361 (grey).
  • Hook: as suggested on your yarn label. I used hook size 2.0.

Notes

The size of my coaster is 9.0 x 9.0 cm. You will work in rows. This pattern uses the side saddle stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch (including how to make a double crochet four together). It is a repeat of two rows. The size of the coaster can be easily adjusted by chaining more or less in the beginning (it should be a multiple of five plus two chains) and repeating rows 2 and 3 until you will form a nice rectangle.

Pattern

Start by chaining 27 (you can adjust the size by chaining more or less, but it should be a multiple of five plus two chains).

Row 1: sc in the 2nd ch from your hook, *ch 3, dc4tog working in the next 4 sts, ch 1, sc in the next st*, rep ** until the end of the row.

Row 2: ch 4, sc in the dc4tog of the prev row, *ch 3, dc4tog in the ch3 space, ch 1, sc in the dc4tog of the prev row*, rep ** until the end of the row. At the end of the row instead of a sc make a dc in the last st.

Row 3: ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in the dc4tog of the prev row, *ch 3, dc4tog in the ch3 space, ch 1, sc in the dc4tog of the prev row*, rep ** until the end of the row. At the end of the row make the last sc in the 3rd chain of the turning chain.

Row 4-15: repeat row 2 and row 3.

Fasten off.
