In this free step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the checkered net stitch. This stitch is a lacy crochet stitch. The fabric turns out light and breathable. It is also a reversible crochet stitch that looks the same on both sides. The checkered net stitch works great for shawls and wraps, lightweight scarves, lacy crochet summer tops and tanks, market bags and other summer crochet projects.
This crochet stitch tutorial includes detailed photo instructions. The checkered net stitch is a one-row repeat. For this crochet stitch you should know how to make double crochet. It is very easy to make and suitable for crochet beginners.
Materials and tools
Yarn: For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: eucalyptus. However, you can use your favorite yarn depending on the crochet project.
Hook: I use a 2.0 mm hook. If you are using a different yarn, choose the hook size that is recommended on your yarn label.

Photo instructions for the checkered net stitch
Row 1
1. Start by chaining a multiple of six plus two. You will start working in the fourth chain from your hook.
2. So, make a double crochet in the fourth chain from your hook.
3. Make another double crochet in the next stitch.
4. Chain three.
5. Skip three stitches and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.
6. Then repeat. Chain three, skip three stitches and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.
7. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row until you have three stitches left.
8. Then chain two, skip two stitches and make a double crochet in the last stitch.
Row 2
9. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.
10. Make two double crochets in the chain two space.
11. Chain three.
12. Make three double crochets in the chain three space.
13. Then repeat. Chain three.
14. Make three double crochets in the next chain three space.
15. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.
16. At the end of the row chain two and make a double crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2.
Finished checkered net stitch
17. Done!
