Crochet coaster Lisa

Here is a free pattern for an easy crochet coaster Lisa. It is very easy to make, so even if you are a beginner, you could definitely give it a try. It is also a great way to practice the block stitch if you haven’t tried it before. The coaster is reversible and looks great on both sides.

You can find my other free crochet patterns here.

Good luck!

Materials

  • Yarn: any thin yarn will work. I used DIAMOND 8/4 mercerized cotton 100% 50g (165 m). Colors: 201 (white), 4950 (linen).
  • Hook: as suggested on your yarn label. I used hook size 2.0.

Notes

The size of my coaster is 8.5 x 8.5 cm. This pattern uses the block stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch. It is a repeat of two rows. The size of the coaster can be easily adjusted by chaining more or less in the beginning (keep in mind that it should be multiples of three plus one chain) and repeating rows 2 and 3 until you will form a nice rectangle (finish with a row of double crochets).

Pattern

Start by chaining 28 with the linen yarn (you can adjust the size by chaining more or less, but it should be multiples of three plus one chain).

Row 1: In the fourth chain from your hook make a dc (in the back of the chain). Then make dcs in every st until the end of the row.

Change color to white (see photo instructions below). You can cut the linen yarn.

Row 2: ch 1, sc in between the last two double crochets of the prev row. *ch 2, skip 3 dcs of the prev row, sc in between two dcs of the prev row*, rep * * until the end of the row (the last sc should be made between the dc of the prev row and the turning chain).

Change color to linen. You can cut the white yarn.

Row 3: ch 3; make 3 dcs in every chain two space of the prev row. In the end of the row make one dc in the last st.

Row 4-17: repeat row 2 and row 3. Remember to change yarn color when you finish each row.

Fasten off.

Photo instructions for a crochet coaster Lisa

Row 1

1. Start by making a chain of multiples of three plus one chain. I chained 28.

2. You will make a double crochet in the fourth chain from your hook. So, yarn over.

3. Insert your hook in the fourth chain from your hook (in the back of the chain).

4. Yarn over.

5. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

6. Yarn over.

7. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on you hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

8. Yarn over.

9. Pull the yarn through both loops. You have just made a double crochet.

10. Keep making double crochets until the end of the row.

11. Now you have to change yarn color. So, take your white yarn and chain one. Then pull the end of the linen yarn to tighten and secure the white yarn. You can cut the linen yarn.

12. Then chain one.

Row 2

13. Turn your work around. Now you will have to make a single crochet between the last two double crochets of the previous row like it is indicated in the picture.

14. So, insert your hook between the two double crochets and yarn over.

15. Pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.

16. Yarn over.

17. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made a single crochet.

18. Then chain two. Next you will have to skip three double crochets of the previous row and make a single crochet.

19. So, skip three double crochets of the previous row and make a single crochet.

20. Then chain two, skip three double crochets of the previous row and make a single crochet.

21. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. When you reach the end, make the last single crochet between the last two stitches of the previous row (the double crochet and the turning chain).

22. Then you can cut the white yarn and take the linen yarn.

23. Chain one with the linen yarn. Then pull the end of the white yarn to tighten and secure the linen yarn.

24. Then chain three.

Row 3

25. Turn your work around. Now you will have to make three double crochets in the chain two space of the previous row like it is indicated in the picture. So, yarn over.

26. Insert your hook in the chain two space.

27. Yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

28. Yarn over.

29. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook.

30. Yarn over.

31. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook.

32. Then make two more double crochets in the same chain two space of the previous row.

33. Next make three double crochets in the next chain two space of the previous row.

34. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. You will have to make a double crochet in the last stitch of the previous row like it is indicated in the picture.

35. So, make the last double crochet in the last stitch of the row. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2 and row 3.

Finished crochet coaster Lisa

36. When you make as many rows as you need, you will have to weave in the ends.

37. Done!

38. This is how the bad side looks.

Enjoy your crochet coaster Lisa!
