Here is a free pattern for this cute crochet coaster Prairie. This pattern uses the prairie crochet stitch.
The photo instructions below show how to make this coaster step-by-step, including the prairie stitch. The pattern is simple and it is a repeat of two rows, therefore, it is suitable for beginners. The fabric turns out not very thick and it has a very nice texture.

Notes
The size of my coaster is 8.0 x 7.5 cm.
You will work in rows. This pattern uses the prairie stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch. It is a repeat of two rows. The size of the coaster can be easily adjusted by chaining more or less in the beginning (keep in mind that it should be any even number of chains) and repeating rows 2-3 until you will form a nice rectangle.
Pattern
Start by chaining 26 (you can adjust the size by chaining more or less, but it should be an even number of chains).
Row 1: In the second chain from your hook make a sc, sc in every st until the end of the row.
Row 2: ch 2, 2 hdc in the next st, *skip 1 st, 2 hdc in the next st*, rep ** until the end of the row until you have 1 st left, hdc in the last st.
Row 3: ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in every st starting from the very first st.
Row 4-19: repeat rows 2-3.
Fasten off.
