In this free step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the double V and ripple stitch. This stitch is a solid, textured crochet stitch. It is also a reversible crochet stitch that looks the same on both sides. It creates dense, durable fabric and works great for potholders, washcloths, decorative pillow covers, laptop sleeves and other projects that need warmth, structure, and durability.

Materials and tools
Yarn: For this tutorial I use Hjertegarn DIAMOND mercerized cotton 100% 8/4 50 g yarn, color: 4950 (linen). However, you can use your favorite yarn depending on the crochet project.
Hook: I use a 2.0 mm hook. If you are using a different yarn, choose the hook size that is recommended on your yarn label.

Row 1
1. Start by chaining a multiple of eight plus five. You will start working in the fourth chain from your hook.
2. Make a double crochet in the fourth chain from your hook.
3. Make another double crochet in the next stitch.
4. Skip two stitches and make two double crochets in the next stitch.
5. Chain one and make two more double crochets in the same stitch.
6. Skip two stitches and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.
7. Then repeat. Skip two stitches and make two double crochets in the next stitch.
8. Chain one and make two double crochets in the same stitch.
9. Skip two stitches and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.
10. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. The row should end with three double crochets.
Row 2
11. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.
12. Next you will make a front post double crochet in the second stitch. So, yarn over.
13. Insert your hook in bringing the post of the second stitch to the front and yarn over.
14. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
15. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the first two loops. Now you have two loops on your hook.
16. Yarn over and pull the yarn through both loops. You have just made a front post double crochet.
17. Make another front post double crochet in the next stitch.
18. Make two double crochets in the next chain one space.
19. Chain one and make two more double crochets in the same chain one space.
20. Skip the next two double crochets and make three front post double crochets in the next three stitches.
21. Then repeat. Make two double crochets in the next chain one space.
22. Chain one and make two more double crochets in the same chain one space.
23. Skip the next two double crochets and make three front post double crochets in the next three stitches.
24. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.
25. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2.

26. Done!
