Mini plant pot cozy Molly

Here is a free crochet pattern for a mini plant pot cozy Molly. The pattern can be easily adjusted for a larger plant pot and you can find detailed instructions below. It is a beginner friendly project and it won’t take long to make. For this pattern I use an extended single crochet back loop only working in rounds. I show how to make this stitch in the photo instructions below. And it is much more simple than it sounds! 🙂 I hope that you will like this mini plant pot cozy and you will give it a try.

Materials

  • Yarn: any thicker yarn will work. I used DIAMOND 8/4 mercerized cotton 100% 50 g. Colors: 3803 (light lilac), 4950 (linen).
  • Hook: as suggested on your yarn label. I used hook size 2.0.

Notes

The diameter of my mini plant pot cozy is 7.0 cm and the height is also 7.0 cm.

This cozy is for a plant pot that has straight sides (not at an angle, widening in the top).

You will be working in rounds. This pattern uses the extended single crochet back loop only stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch.

It is easy to adjust the size for your cozy. Start by making a round base (see the pattern below for instructions) that is slightly smaller than your plant pot: it will get a bit wider when you will keep working. When you reach around one third of the height of the pot, change yarn color.

Adjusting the size

If you need a smaller base for your pot cozy, you can stop after any round and continue with the sides, i.e. round 8 (the number of stitches in round 8 will be the same as in the last round of your base). If you need a larger base, you can follow the instructions below and then continue with round 8 (the number of stitches in round 8 will be the same as in the last round of your base). You can change yarn color when you reach around one third of the height of the pot.

Larger base

Round 8: ch 1, *sc-blo inc, 6 sc-blo*, rep ** 7 times, sc-blo inc, 5 sc-blo, join with a sl st. (64 st)

Round 9: ch 1, 4 sc-blo; *sc-blo inc, 7 sc-blo*, rep ** 7 times, sc-blo inc, 2 sc-blo, join with a sl st. (72 st)

Round 15: ch 1, 9 sc-blo; *sc-blo inc, 13 sc-blo*, rep ** 7 times, sc-blo inc, 3 sc-blo, join with a sl st. (120 st)
