The lacy aligned lotus stitch

In this free step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the lacy aligned lotus crochet stitch. This stitch is a lacy crochet stitch. The fabric turns out light and breathable. It works great for shawls and wraps, lightweight scarves, lacy crochet summer tops and tanks, and other summer crochet projects. This stitch can also be used in decorative crochet projects for the home.

This crochet stitch tutorial includes detailed photo instructions. The lacy aligned lotus crochet stitch is a four-row repeat. For this stitch you should know how to make single crochet, double crochet and treble crochet. The tutorial below shows how to make a puff stitch.

Materials and tools

Yarn: For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: sand. However, you can use your favorite yarn depending on the crochet project.

Hook: I use a 2.0 mm hook. If you are using a different yarn, choose the hook size that is recommended on your yarn label.

Photo instructions for the lacy aligned lotus crochet stitch

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of six plus four. You will start working in the sixth chain from your hook.

2. So, make a double crochet in the sixth chain from your hook.

3. Chain one.

4. Skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

5. Chain one, skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

6. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. The row should end with a double crochet.

7. Chain one.

Row 2

8. Turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch, so you will start working in the very first stitch.

9. Make a single crochet in the first stitch.

10. Chain two.

11. Skip the first chain one space in the previous row and make a double crochet in the next chain one space.

12. Chain two.

13. Make the second double crochet in the same chain one space. You have just made a V stitch!

14. Chain two.

15. Then skip the next chain one space and make a single crochet in the double crochet of the previous row.

16. Then repeat: chain two.

17. Skip the next chain one space and in the next one make a double crochet, chain two and make the second double crochet.

18. Chain two, skip the next chain one space and make a single crochet in the double crochet of the previous row.

19. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. When you make the last V stitch, chain two.

20. Then skip one chain of the turning chain and make a single crochet in the next chain.

21. Chain four.

Row 3

22. Turn your work around. Next you will make a puff stitch in the center of the V stitch.

23. So, yarn over.

24. Skip the first chain two space of the previous row, insert your hook in the next chain two space and yarn over.

25. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

26. Yarn over.

27. Insert your hook in the same chain two space and yarn over.

28. Pull the yarn through. Now you have five loops on your hook.

29. Yarn over, insert your hook in the same chain two space and yarn over.

30. Pull the yarn through. Now you have seven loops on your hook.

31. Yarn over.

32. Pull the yarn through the first six loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

33. Yarn over.

34. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made a puff stitch!

35. Chain two.

36. Then make another puff stitch in the same chain two space.

37. Chain two.

38. Make the third puff stitch in the same chain two space. You have just made a lotus stitch!

39. Chain one. Next you will make another lotus stitch in the center of the next V stitch.

40. So, skip the next two chain two spaces and make a puff stitch in the next one.

41. Chain two.

42. Make the second puff stitch in the same chain two space.

43. Chain two.

44. Then make the third puff stitch in the same chain two space.

45. Chain one. Next you will make another lotus stitch in the center of the next V stitch.

46. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

47. When you make the last lotus stitch, don’t chain one. Make a treble crochet in the single crochet of the previous row.

48. Chain four.

Row 4

49. Turn your work around. You will start working in the chain two space of the previous row.

50. So, make a double crochet in the chain two space of the previous row.

51. Then chain one and make a double crochet in the next chain two space.

52. Chain one and make a double crochet in the chain one space between the two lotus stitches.

53. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row: chain one, make a double crochet in the next chain two space, chain one, make a double crochet in the next chain two space, chain one and make a double crochet in the chain one space between the two lotus stitches.

54. At the end of the row make the last double crochet in the turning chain of the previous row.

55. Chain four.

Row 5

56. Turn your work around. You will start working in the second double crochet of the previous row.

57. So, skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the double crochet of the previous row.

58. Then repeat: chain one, skip the chain one space and make a double crochet in the double crochet of the previous row.

59. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. At the end of the row skip one chain of the turning chain and make a double crochet in the next one. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.
