In this step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the lacy shell crochet stitch. For this stitch you should know how to make a single crochet and a double crochet. The lacy shell crochet stitch is a repeat of four rows. The fabric turns out very light, so it would work great for a summer crochet project!

Row 1
1. Start by chaining a multiple of eight plus two. You will start working in the second chain from your hook.
2. So, make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.
3. Then chain five.
4. Skip three stitches and make a single crochet in the next one.
5. Chain five.
6. Skip three stitches and make a single crochet in the next one.
7. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row: chain five, skip three stitches and make a single crochet in the next stitch.
8. The row should end with a single crochet.
9. Chain three.
Row 2
10. Turn your work around. You will start working in the very first stitch.
11. So, make two double crochets in the very first stitch.
12. Next skip two chains and make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five of the previous row.
13. Chain five.
14. Then make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
15. Next make five double crochets in the single crochet of the previous row.
16. Make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
17. Chain five.
18. Then make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
19. Make five double crochets in the single crochet of the previous row.
20. Make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
21. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row: chain five, make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five, make five double crochets in the single crochet and make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
22. At the end of the row make a single crochet in the third chain of the last chain five and then make three double crochets in the last stitch (in the single crochet of the previous row).
23. Chain one.
Row 3
24. Turn your work around. You will start working in the very first stitch.
25. Make a single crochet in the very first stitch.
26. Chain five.
27. Make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
28. Chain five.
29. Then make a single crochet in the third double crochet (the middle one) of the previous row.
30. Chain five and make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
31. Chain five and make a single crochet in the third double crochet of the previous row.
32. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.
33. Make the last single crochet in the turning chain.
34. Chain five.
Row 4
35. Turn your work around.
36. Make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
37. Then make five double crochets in the single crochet of the previous row.
38. Make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
39. Chain five.
40. Make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
41. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.
42. At the end of the row chain two.
43. Then make a double crochet in the last stitch (in the single crochet of the previous row).
44. Chain one.
Row 5
45. Turn your work around. You will start working in the very first stitch.
46. So, make a single crochet in the very first stitch.
47. Chain five.
48. Then make a single crochet in the third double crochet of the previous row.
49. Chain five and make a single crochet in the third chain of the chain five.
50. Chain five and make a single crochet in the third double crochet of the previous row.
51. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.
52. At the end of the row, chain five as usually, then skip two chains of the turning chain and make a single crochet in the next one. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.
