In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the messy cluster stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes photo instructions and a video tutorial (see below). For this crochet stitch you should know how to make a double crochet. The tutorial below shows how to make a double crochet three together stitch. The messy cluster stitch is a repeat of one row. This stitch is a reversible crochet stitch and it looks the same on both sides. The fabric turns out lacy and light.

For this tutorial I use Hjertegarn Diamond mercerized cotton 8/4, 50 g = 165 m, color: sea green 706, and a 2.0 mm hook.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of three plus one. You will start working in the fifth chain from your hook.

2. So, make a double crochet in the fifth chain from your hook.

3. Chain three. Next you will make a double crochet three together working around the post of the double crochet that you have just made.

4. So, yarn over.

5. Insert your hook grabbing the post of the double crochet that you have just made and yarn over.

6. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

7. Yarn over.

8. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

9. Yarn over.

10. Insert your hook grabbing the post of the same double crochet and yarn over.

11. Pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.

12. Yarn over.

13. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have three loops on your hook.

14. Yarn over.

15. Insert your hook grabbing the post of the same double crochet and yarn over.

16. Pull the yarn through. Now you have five loops on your hook.

17. Yarn over.

18. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have four loops on your hook.

19. Yarn over.

20. Pull the yarn through all loops on your hook. You have just made a double crochet three together!

21. Skip two stitches and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

22. Chain three.

23. Make a double crochet three together working around the post of the double crochet that you have just made.

24. Then repeat: skip two stitches, make a double crochet in the next one, chain three, make a double crochet three together working around the post of the double crochet.

25. Continue working the same way until the end of the row.

26. At the end of the row skip one stitch and make double crochet in the last one.

Row 2

27. Chain three and turn your work around.

28. Make a double crochet in the chain three space of the previous row.

29. Chain three.

30. Make a double crochet three together working around the post of the double crochet that you have just made.

31. Then make a double crochet in the next chain three space of the previous row.

32. Chain three.

33. Make a double crochet three together working around the post of the double crochet that you have just made.

34. Then repeat: make a double crochet in the next chain three space, chain three, make a double crochet three together working around the post of the double crochet.

35. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

36. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2.

Finished messy cluster stitch

37. Done!
