The pike stitch

In this step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the pike stitch. The pike crochet stitch consists of chains and extended single crochets. It is a repeat of one row. This stitch is reversible and it looks the same on both sides. It is suitable for beginners.

For this tutorial I use Hjertegarn DIAMOND mercerized cotton 100% 8/4 50g yarn, color: 3304 (lilac), and a 2.0 mm hook.

Photo instructions for the pike crochet stitch

Row 1

1. Start by making an odd number of chains. You will start working in the 5th chain from your hook.

2. So, insert your hook in the 5th chain from your hook and yarn over.

3. Pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.

4. Yarn over.

5. Then pull the yarn through the first loop on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

6. Yarn over.

7. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made an extended single crochet.

8. Chain one.

9. Skip one stitch and make an extended single crochet.

10. Keep working in the same way until the end of the row: chain one, skip one stitch and make an extended single crochet.

11. In the end of the row chain three.

Row 2

12. Turn your work around. Now you will have to skip the chain in the previous row and work in the second extended single crochet of the previous row.

13. So, make an extended single crochet in the second extended single crochet of the previous row.

14. Then chain one.

15. Skip the chain one in the previous row and make an extended single crochet in the next extended single crochet of the previous row.

16. Work in the same way until the end of the row. At the end of the row you will have to work in the turning chain of the previous row. So, chain one.

17. Then make an extended single crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2.
