In this step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the sedge stitch. The sedge crochet stitch consists of single, half double and double crochets and it is a repeat of one row. This stitch is reversible and it looks the same on both sides. It is suitable for beginners.
For this tutorial I use Järbo 8/4 100% Cotton Mercerized & Gassed 50 g yarn, color: 32032 (frosty green), and a 2.0 mm hook.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining multiples of 3.

2. In the second chain from your hook make a half double crochet.

3. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

4. Skip two stitches and make a single crochet.

5. Make a half double crochet in the same stitch.

6. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

7. Work in the same way until the end of the row: skip two stitches, then make one single, one half double and one double crochet all in the same stitch.

8. When you reach the end, only two stitches are left.

9. Make a single crochet in the last stitch.

10. Then chain one.
Row 2

11. Turn your work around. You will start working in the first stitch (in the single crochet of the previous row).

12. So, make a half double crochet in the first stitch.

13. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

14. Skip two stitches and make a single crochet (in the single crochet of the previous row).

15. Make a half double crochet in the same stitch.

16. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

17. Continue to work in the same way until the end of the row.

18. At the end of the row you will have to work in the half double crochet of the previous row (you have to skip only one stitch).

19. So, make a single crochet in the half double crochet of the previous row. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2.
