In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the simple aligned shell stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes photo instructions and a video tutorial (see below). For this crochet stitch you should know how to make a single crochet and a double crochet. The simple aligned shell stitch is a repeat of two rows. This crochet stitch is easy to make and it is suitable for beginners. The fabric turns out light and lacy and it has a beautiful texture.

For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: sand, and a 2.0 mm hook.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of six plus five. You will work in the eighth chain from your hook.

2. So, make a single crochet in the eighth chain from your hook.

3. Chain two.

4. Skip two stitches and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

5. Chain two.

6. Skip two stitches and make a single crochet in the next stitch.

7. Then repeat: chain two, skip two stitches, make a double crochet in the next stitch, chain two, skip two stitches and make a single crochet in the next one.

8. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row, until you have three stitches left.

9. Then chain two.

10. Skip two stitches and make a double crochet in the last stitch.

Row 2

11. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

12. Make a single crochet in the first stitch.

13. Then make five double crochets in the single crochet of the previous row.

14. Make a single crochet in the double crochet of the previous row.

15. Then repeat: make five double crochets in the next single crochet, make a single crochet in the next double crochet.

16. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

17. At the end of the row make the last single crochet in the turning chain.

Row 3

18. Chain five and turn your work around.

19. Make a single crochet in the third double crochet of the previous row.

20. Chain two.

21. Then skip two stitches and make a double crochet in the single crochet of the previous row.

22. Chain two.

23. Skip two stitches and make a single crochet in the next stitch.

24. Then repeat: chain two, skip two stitches and make a double crochet, chain two, skip two stitches and make a single crochet.

25. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

26. At the end of the row chain two as usually.

27. Then make a double crochet in the last stitch. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-3.
