The split fan and cluster stitch

In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the split fan and cluster stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes photo instructions and a video tutorial (see below). For this crochet stitch you should know how to make a single crochet and a double crochet. The tutorial below shows how to make a double crochet three together stitch. The split fan and cluster stitch is a repeat of four rows. The fabric turns out lacy and light.

For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: blue agave, and a 2.0 mm hook.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of ten plus eight.

2. Make a double crochet in the 13th chain from your hook.

3. Then chain four and make another double crochet in the same stitch.

4. Chain four. Next you will make a double crochet three together cluster.

5. So, yarn over, skip four stitches, insert your hook in the next stitch and yarn over.

6. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

7. Yarn over.

8. Pull the yarn through the first two loops. Now you have two loops on your hook.

9. Yarn over, insert your hook in the same stitch and yarn over.

10. Pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.

11. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have three loops on your hook.

12. Yarn over, insert your hook in the same stitch and yarn over.

13. Pull the yarn through. Now you have five loops on your hook.

14. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the firs two loops on your hook. Now you have four loops on your hook.

15. Yarn over and pull the yarn through all loops on your hook. You have just made a double crochet three together cluster!

16. Then chain four, skip four stitches, make a double crochet in the next stitch, chain four and make another double crochet in the same stitch.

17. Chain four, skip four stitches and make another cluster in the next stitch.

18. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

19. At the end of the row chain four and make a double crochet in the last stitch.

Row 2

20. Chain five and turn your work around.

21. Then make a single crochet in the chain four space.

22. Make three double crochets in the next chain four space.

23. Chain two and make three more double crochets in the same chain four space.

24. Then make a single crochet in the next chain four space.

25. Chain four and make a single crochet in the next chain four space.

26. Then make three double crochets, chain two and three more double crochets in the next chain four space.

27. Make a single crochet in the next chain four space.

28. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

29. At the end of the row chain two and make a double crochet in the turning chain.

Row 3

30. Chain five and turn your work around.

31. Make a double crochet in the chain two space.

32. Then chain four and make a cluster in the next chain two space.

33. Chain four and in the next chain four space make a double crochet, chain four and make another double crochet.

34. Chain four and make a cluster in the next chain two space.

35. Chain four and in the next chain four space make a double crochet, chain four and make another double crochet.

36. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. When you make the last cluster, chain four.

37. Then in the last chain space make a double crochet, chain two and make another double crochet.

Row 4

38. Chain three and turn your work around.

39. Make three double crochets in the chain two space.

40. Then make a single crochet in the chain four space.

41. Chain four and make a single crochet in the next chain four space.

42. In the next chain four space make three double crochets, chain two and three more double crochets.

43. Make a single crochet in the next chain four space.

44. Chain four and make a single crochet in the next chain four space.

45. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

46. At the end of the row make four double crochets in the last chain space.

Row 5

47. Chain seven and turn your work around.

48. In the chain four space make a double crochet, chain four and make another double crochet.

49. Then chain four and make a cluster in the chain two space.

50. Chain four and in the chain four space make a double crochet, chain four and another double crochet.

51. Chain four and make a cluster in the chain two space.

52. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

53. At the end of the row chain four and make a double crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.
