In this step-by-step tutorial I show how to make the half double crochet V stitch. This stitch consists of a half double crochet, a chain and the second half double crochet made in the same stitch. The pattern is a repeat of one row. This stitch is reversible and looks the same on both sides.

Row 1
1. Start by making a chain. It should have an even number of chains.
2. Yarn over. You will be working in the fourth chain from your hook (in the back of the chain).
3. So, insert your hook in the fourth chain from your hook.
4. Then yarn over.
5. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
6. Yarn over.
7. Pull the yarn through all three loops on your hook. You have just made a half double crochet.
8. Next chain one.
9. Then yarn over.
10. Insert your hook in the same stitch where you have just worked in.
11. Yarn over.
12. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
13. Yarn over.
14. Pull the yarn through all three loops on your hook. You have just made a half double crochet V stitch! Now you will have to skip one stitch and make another half double crochet V stitch.
15. So, skip one stitch, make a half double crochet, chain one and make the second half double crochet in the same stitch.
16. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row: skip one stitch, make a half double crochet V stitch. When you reach the end of the row you will have to make a half double crochet in the last stitch.
17. So, make a half double crochet in the last stitch.
18. Then chain one.
Row 2
19. Turn your work around. Now you will work in the first stitch like it is indicated in the picture.
20. So, make a half double crochet in the first stitch. Next you will work in the chain one space of the half double crochet V stitch of the previous row.
21. So, make a half double crochet in the chain one space.
22. Then chain one. Next you will have to work in the same chain one space.
23. So, make the second half double crochet in the same chain one space. Next you will be working in the next chain one space.
24. Make a half double crochet in the chain one space.
25. Chain one. Next you will work in the same chain one space.
26. Make the second half double crochet in the same chain one space.
27. Keep working in the same way until the end of the row. When you reach the end, you will have to make a half double crochet in the turning chain of row 1.
28. So, make a half double crochet in the turning chain.
Row 3
29. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2. When you reach the end of row 3, you will have to make the last half double crochet in the half double crochet of the previous row (instead of the turning chain like in row 2).
30. So, in the end of the row make a half double crochet in the half double crochet of the previous row.
