Crochet phone case Amelia

If you need a new case for your phone, here is a free pattern for a crochet phone case Amelia. For this pattern I used a very simple but really beautiful stitch: a half double crochet V stitch. It is simple to make and it is suitable for beginners.

For my phone case I combined two colors, but you can of course make it using just one color. The texture is very nice, so the case will look great in any way.

Materials

Yarn: any thin yarn will work. I used DIAMOND 8/4 mercerized cotton 100% 50 g. Color: 3803 (light lilac), 4950 (linen).
Hook: as suggested on your yarn label. I used hook size 2.0.

Notes

The size of my phone case is 8.0 x 15.0 cm.

You will be working in rounds. This pattern uses the half double crochet V stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch working in rounds. It consists of one row that you should repeat until you reach the desired height. The half double crochet V stitch is easy to make and it is suitable for beginners: make a half double crochet, chain one and make the second half double crochet in the same stitch.

To start the phone case, you should make a chain, which length should be two or three chains less than the width of your phone (it does not matter if the number of chains is even or odd). The reason for this is that the case will become a bit wider when you will make three or four rounds. When three or four rounds are done, it is a good idea to check if your phone fits well.

You should change yarn color when you reach around 3/4 of the height of your phone.

Pattern

Start by making a chain with linen yarn, which length should be two or three chains less than the width of your phone. I chained 18.

Round 1: To make the first round, you will be working down the chain, then turn and work on the other side of the chain. Make sc in every st of the chain starting from the second chain from your hook. Turn. 1 sc in the end of the chain, make sc in every st (starting with the one you have just worked into; now that st has 3 sc in total) until you come back to the beginning of the chain. 1 sc in the end of the chain. Join with a sl st to the first sc of this round. In total you should have 36 st (or the number that you chained in the beginning times two).

Round 2: ch 2 (it counts as a st), *make hdc v st in the next st, skip 1 st*, rep * * until the end of the round. Join with a sl st.

Round 3: ch 2 (it counts as a st), *make hdc v st in the ch1 space of the prev round (in the middle of the hdc v st of the prev round), skip 1 st*, rep * * until the end of the round. Join with a sl st.

Round 4-22: repeat round 3.

Change yarn color to light lilac (see photo instructions).

Round 23-31: repeat round 3.

Fasten off.

Round 1

1. Start by making a chain with linen yarn, which length should be two or three chains less than the width of your phone. I chained 18. Next you will work in the second chain from your hook.

2. Make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Keep making single crochets until the end of the row.

4. Turn your work and make a single crochet in the end of the chain.

5. Then make single crochets in every stitch starting with the one you have just worked into; now that stitch has 3 single crochets in total.

6. Keep making single crochets until you come back to the beginning of the chain.

7. Then make one single crochet in the end of the chain.

8. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet of this round. In total you should have 36 stitches (or the number that you chained in the beginning times two).

Round 2

9. Chain two. It counts as a stitch. Next you will work in the next stitch like it is indicated in the picture.

10. So, yarn over.

11. Insert your hook in the next stitch.

12. Yarn over.

13. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

14. Yarn over.

15. Pull the yarn through all three loops. You have just made the first half double crochet.

16. Then chain one. Next you will work in the same stitch where you have just worked in.

17. So, make the second half double crochet in the same stitch. You have just made a half double crochet V stitch. Next you will have to skip one stitch and work in the next one like it is indicated in the picture.

18. So, skip one stitch and make a half double crochet V stitch.

19. Keep working in the same way until the end of the round. Next you will have to join with a slip stitch to the second chain of the chain that you made in the beginning of this round.

20. So, insert your hook in the second chain.

21. Yarn over.

22. Pull the yarn through.

Round 3

23. Chain two. Next you will work in the chain one space of the half double crochet V stitch of the previous round.

24. So, make the first half double crochet in the chain one space.

25. Chain one.

26. Make the second half double crochet in the same chain one space. Next you will work in the next chain one space of the previous round.

27. So, make a half double crochet V stitch in the next chain one space.

28. Keep working in the same way until the end of the round. Next you will have to join with a slip stitch to the second chain of the chain that you made in the beginning of this round.
