The crown stitch

In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the crown stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes photo instructions and a video tutorial (see below). For this crochet stitch you should know how to make a double crochet. The tutorial below shows how to make a double crochet two together stitch. The crown stitch is a repeat of four rows. The fabric turns out very light and it has a beautiful lacy texture.

For this tutorial I use Hjertegarn DIAMOND mercerized cotton 100% 8/4 50 g yarn, color: 4950 (linen), and a 2.0 mm hook.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of eight plus three. You will start working in the fourth chain from your hook.

2. So, make a double crochet in the fourth chain from your hook.

3. Chain one.

4. Skip two stitches and in the next stitch make a double crochet, chain three and another double crochet.

5. Chain one.

6. Skip two stitches and make a double crochet.

7. Chain one.

8. Skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the next one.

9. Then repeat: chain one.

10. Skip two stitches and in the next one make a double crochet, chain three and another double crochet.

11. Chain one, skip two stitches and make a double crochet.

12. Chain one, skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

13. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

14. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the second to last stitch as usually.

15. Then make one more double crochet in the last stitch.

Row 2

16. Chain four and turn your work around.

17. Next you will make a double crochet two together (dc2tog) in the chain three space. So, yarn over.

18. Insert your hook in the chain three space, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

19. Yarn over.

20. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

21. Yarn over.

22. Insert your hook in the same chain three space and yarn over.

23. Pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.

24. Yarn over.

25. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have three loops on your hook.

26. Yarn over.

27. Pull the yarn through all three loops. You have just made a dc2tog!

28. Chain one.

29. Make the second dc2tog in the same chain three space.

30. Chain one and make the third dc2tog in the same chain three space.

31. Chain one and make the fourth dc2tog in the same chain three space.

32. Chain one.

33. Then skip the next chain one space and make double crochet in the next chain one space.

34. Chain one.

35. In the next chain three space make: dc2tog, chain one, dc2tog, chain one, dc2tog, chain one, dc2tog.

36. Then chain one, skip the next chain one space and make a double crochet in the next chain one space.

37. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

38. At the end of the row you will work in the turning chain.

39. So, chain one as usually and make the last double crochet in the turning chain.

Row 3

40. Chain four and turn your work around.

41. Make a double crochet in the very first stitch and chain one.

42. Then make a double crochet in the second dc2tog of the previous row.

43. Chain one and make a double crochet in the third dc2tog of the previous row.

44. Chain one.

45. In the next double crochet of the previous row make a double crochet, chain three and another double crochet.

46. Chain one and make a double crochet in the second dc2tog of the previous row.

47. Chain one and make a double crochet in the third dc2tog of the previous row.

48. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

49. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the third dc2tog of the previous row as usually.

50. Then chain one and make a double crochet in the second chain of the turning chain.

51. Chain one and make another double crochet in the same chain.

Row 4

52. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

53. Make a dc2tog in the chain one space.

54. Chain one and make another dc2tog in the same chain one space.

55. Chain one, skip the next chain one space and make a double crochet in the next chain one space.

56. Chain one.

57. In the next chain three space make: dc2tog, chain one, dc2tog, chain one, dc2tog, chain one, dc2tog.

58. Chain one, skip the next chain one space and make a double crochet in the next chain one space.

59. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

60. At the end of the row chain one and make a dc2tog in the turning chain space.

61. Chain one and make another dc2tog in the same turning chain space.

62. Then make a double crochet in the same turning chain space.

Row 5

63. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

64. Make a double crochet in the second stitch.

65. Chain one.

66. In the next double crochet of the previous row make a double crochet, chain three and another double crochet. Chain one.

67. Make a double crochet in the second dc2tog, chain one and make a double crochet in the third dc2tog.

68. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

69. At the the end of the row you will work in the last dc2tog and the turning chain.

70. So, chain one as usually and make a double crochet in the last dc2tog of the previous row.

71. Then make a double crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.

Finished crown stitch
