In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the polka dot holes stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes photo instructions and a video tutorial (see below). For this crochet stitch you should know how to make a single crochet and a double crochet. The tutorial below shows how to make a crossed double crochet stitch. The polka dot holes stitch is a repeat of four rows. The fabric turns out not so thick and it has an interesting look.

For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: blue agave, and a 2.0 mm hook.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of eight plus one. You will start working in the second chain from your hook.

2. So, make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Continue making single crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

Row 2

4. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch, so you will start working in the second stitch.

5. Make a double crochet in the second stitch.

6. Make a double crochet in the next stitch. Next you will make a crossed double crochet working in the next two stitches.

7. First, skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

8. Then you will make a double crochet working in the stitch that you have skipped. So, yarn over.

9. Insert your hook in the skipped stitch and yarn over.

10. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

11. Yarn over.

12. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

13. Yarn over.

14. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made a crossed double crochet!

15. Make two double crochets in the next two stitches.

16. Chain two.

17. Skip two stitches and make two double crochets in the next two stitches.

18. Then make a crossed double crochet working in the next two stitches.

19. Make two double crochets in the next two stitches.

20. Then repeat: chain two, skip two stitches, make two double crochets, a crossed double crochet and two double crochets.

21. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

22. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the last stitch.

Row 3

23. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

24. Make a single crochet in the very first stitch.

25. Then make six single crochets in the next six stitches.

26. Make two single crochets in the chain two space.

27. Make six single crochets in the next six stitches.

28. Make two single crochets in the chain two space.

29. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

30. At the end of the row make the last single crochet in the turning chain.

Row 4

31. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

32. Make a double crochet in the second stitch.

33. Then make one more double crochet in the next stitch.

34. Chain two.

35. Skip two stitches and make two double crochets.

36. Then make a crossed double crochet working in the next two stitches.

37. Make two double crochets.

38. Then repeat: chain two, skip two stitches, make two double crochets, a crossed double crochet and two double crochets.

39. Work in the same way until the end of the row.

40. At the end of the row chain two, skip two stitches and make three double crochets in the last three stitches.

Row 5

41. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

42. Make a single crochet in the very first stitch.

43. Make two single crochets in the next two stitches and two single crochets in the chain two space.

44. Make six single crochets.

45. Then repeat: make two single crochets in the chain two space and six single crochets in the next six stitches.

46. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

47. Make the last single crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.
