V stitch (v-st)

This crochet stitch tutorial shows how to make the V stitch (v-st). Is is quite simple and consists of two double crochets (dc) worked in the same stitch with one chain (ch) in between. The V stitch works great with multiple colors. I used this stitch my spider coasters and other projects.

For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, colors: eucalyptus and curry, and a 2.0 mm hook.

Photo instructions

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of three plus one. You will start working in the fifth chain from your hook.

2. So, make a double crochet in the fifth chain from your hook.

3. Chain one.

4. Make another double crochet in the same stitch. You have just made a V stitch!

5. Then skip two stitches and make a double crochet.

6. Chain one.

7. Make the second double crochet in the same stitch.

8. Then skip two stitches and make another V stitch in the next stitch.

9. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row until you have two stitches left.

10. Then skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the last stitch.

11. If you wish to change yarn color, take the second color yarn and chain one.

12. Pull the end of the first color yarn to tighten up and secure the second color yarn (alternatively you could just complete the last double crochet with the second color yarn). Your second color yarn is ready to use.

13. Chain three.

Row 2

14. Turn your work around. Chain three counts as a double crochet. You will make a V stitch in the chain one space of the previous row (in the middle of the V stitch of the previous row).

15. So, make a double crochet in the chain one space of the previous row.

16. Chain one.

17. Then make the second double crochet in the same chain one space.

18. Make another V stitch in the next chain one space of the previous row.

19. Continue making V stitches in every chain one space until the end of the row.

20. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat row 2 changing yarn color every row.

21. Done!
