In this free step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the cluster of two double crochets (dc2 cluster). The cluster of two double crochets can be in other stitch patterns. This particular stitch is a lacy crochet stitch. The fabric turns out light and breathable. It is also a reversible crochet stitch that looks the same on both sides. It works great for shawls and wraps, lightweight scarves, lacy crochet summer tops and tanks, market bags and other summer crochet projects.
This crochet stitch tutorial includes detailed photo instructions. It is a two-row repeat. For this crochet stitch you should know how to make double crochet. If you would like to practice it, I use it in my spider coasters and many other projects.
Materials and tools
Yarn: For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: navy blue. However, you can use your favorite yarn depending on the crochet project.
Hook: I use a 2.0 mm hook. If you are using a different yarn, choose the hook size that is recommended on your yarn label.

Photo instructions for the cluster of two double crochet
Row 1
1. Start by chaining an even number of chains. You will start working in the fourth chain from your hook.
2. So, make a double crochet in the fourth chain from your hook.
3. Then chain one. Next you will skip one stitch and make a two double crochet cluster.
4. So, yarn over.
5. Skip one stitch, insert your hook in the next stitch and yarn over.
6. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
7. Yarn over.
8. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. You have just made the first leg of the two double crochet cluster. Next you will make the second leg working in the same stitch.
9. So, yarn over.
10. Insert your hook in the same stitch and yarn over.
11. Pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.
12. Yarn over.
13. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have three loops on your hook.
14. Yarn over.
15. Pull the yarn through all three loops on your hook. You have just made a two double crochet cluster!
16. Chain one.
17. Skip one stitch and make another cluster in the next stitch.
18. Chain one.
19. Skip one stitch and make another cluster.
20. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.
21. At the end of the row chain three.
Row 2
22. Turn your work around. Chain three counts as a double crochet. You will work in the chain one space of the previous row.
23. So, make a cluster of two double crochet in the chain one space.
24. Then chain one.
25. Make another cluster in the next chain one space.
26. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row: chain one and make a cluster in the next chain one space.
27. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain.
28. Then chain two.
Row 3
29. Turn your work around. You will start working in the first stitch.
30. So, make a double crochet in the first stitch.
31. Chain one.
32. Make a cluster of two double crochet in the chain one space of the previous row.
33. Then repeat: chain one and make another cluster in the next chain one space.
34. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.
35. At the end of the row make the last cluster in the space between the turning chain and the cluster of the previous row. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2 and 3.
