- st: stitch
Notes
The size of my pouch is 11.0 x 7.5 cm. You will be working in rounds. This pattern uses the tapestry crochet technique (you can find the tutorial here). The photo instructions below show how to make a pouch. This pattern uses a modified single crochet: make a single crochet back loop only, but instead of yarning over for the last step, yarn under (see the tutorial here). Except for the first round, every round is made in the same way: chain one, make 67 modified single crochets, join with a slip stitch. Follow the color chart showing how you should change colors.

Pattern
Start by chaining 34 with the white yarn.
Round 1: To make the first round, you will be working down the chain, then turn and work on the other side of the chain. Make sc in every st of the chain starting from the second chain from your hook. Turn. 1 sc in the end of the chain, make sc in every st (starting with the one you have just worked into; now that st has 3 sc in total) until you come back to the beginning of the chain. 1 sc in the end of the chain. Add your white yarn like it is shown in the photo instructions below. Join with a sl st to the first sc of this round. In total you should have 68 st.
Introduce the linen yarn and follow the color chart for all the rounds until the end.
Round 2-21: ch 1, msc in every st of the previous round. Join with a sl st.
Fasten off and sew in a zipper.
Color chart for the crochet zipper pouch with a paw print

How to read the chart
Each square represents a stitch and its color. In each round you have 68 stitches. Rows represent rounds. For each round you have to read the row in the chart from right to left. The chain that you make in the beginning of each round counts as a stitch.
Below a larger color chart you can find a zoomed in color chart which starts from column 35 (from the 35th stitch; stitches 1-34 are white).
See photo instructions below showing how to change color.
Photo instructions for the crochet zipper pouch with a paw print
Round 1

1. Start by chaining 34.

2. Make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Continue making single crochets until the end of the chain.

4. Then make one single crochet in the end of the chain.

5. Turn your work and make one more single crochet in the same stitch.

6. Then continue making single crochets in every stitch until you reach the end.

7. Make one single crochet in the end of the chain. In total you should have 68 stitches.

8. To join with a slip stitch, insert your hook in the first single crochet of this round.

9. Yarn over and pull the yarn through.
Round 2

10. Chain one.

11. Then insert your hook in the next stitch grabbing just the back loop.

12. Yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook. Then take the linen yarn and put it behind your hook and in front of the white yarn like it is shown in the picture.

13. Yarn under.

14. Pull the yarn through. You have just made a modified single crochet. Notice that the linen yarn is wrapped around with the white yarn.

15. Then insert your hook in the next stitch grabbing just the back loop and under the linen yarn like it is shown in the picture.

16. Yarn over and pull the yarn through.

17. Then yarn under.

18. Pull the yarn through.

19. Keep working in the the same way until the end of the round.

20. To join with a slip stitch, insert your hook in the chain that you made in the beginning of this round. Leave the linen yarn aside.

21. Yarn over the white yarn.

22. Then pull the yarn through.
Round 3

23. Then chain one and work as usually. Remember to bring the linen yarn back. So, insert your hook in the next stitch grabbing just the back loop.

24. Yarn over, pull the yarn through, yarn under and pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. Keep working in the same way until the end of the round.
Round 4

25. The 57th stitch in round 4 should be linen. This means that you will have to change yarn color. So, make 55 stitches with the white yarn (the chain that you make in the beginning counts as a stitch). Then start making the 56th stitch, but don’t finish it, stop when you have two loops on your hook.

26. Then put the linen yarn up and yarn under.

27. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. Your linen yarn is ready to use.

28. Make one full modified single crochet with the linen yarn, start making the second one but stop when you have two loops on your hook. You will have to change yarn color because the next stitch should be white.

29. So, put the white yarn up and finish making the modified single crochet with the white yarn. Your white yarn is ready to use again. Keep following the color chart and change yarn color accordingly.

Just want to report a issue with this pattern. In the top it says “chain 38” and under One of the pictures it says “chain 34”. It makes more Sense to me that it should be 34, but even so, i first noticed it when I tried the pattern a second time.
Just so you know 🙂
Thank you so much for noticing this and writing! You are absolutely right, it should be chain 34. I am sorry for this confusion, I have just corrected my mistake. Thanks again and have a great day!
