In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the checkered boxed picot stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes detailed photo instructions. The checkered boxed picot stitch is a repeat of four rows. The fabric turns out light and lacy.

Photo instructions for the checkered boxed picot stitch
Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of ten plus four. You will start working in the second chain from your hook.

2. So, make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Make three more single crochets in the next three stitches.

4. Next you will make a picot. So, chain three.

5. Make a slip stitch: insert your hook in the first chain.

6. Yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.

7. Pull the first loop through the second one. You have just made a slip stitch and completed the picot.

8. Make ten single crochets in the next ten stitches.

9. Make a picot: chain three and make a slip stitch in the first chain.

10. Then repeat. Make ten single crochets in the next ten stitches.

11. Make a picot.

12. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row, until you have nine stitches left.

13. Then make nine single crochets in the last nine stitches.
Row 2

14. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

15. Make a double crochet in the second stitch.

16. Make another double crochet in the next stitch.

17. Chain two.

18. Skip two stitches and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

19. Chain two.

20. Skip the next single crochet, the picot and the next single crochet, make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

21. Chain two, skip two stitches and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

22. Then repeat. Chain two, skip the next single crochet, the picot and the next single crochet, make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

23. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. The row should end with three double crochets.
Row 3

24. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

25. Make a single crochet in the first stitch.

26. Make two single crochets in the next two stitches.

27. Make two single crochets in the next chain two space.

28. Make three single crochets in the next three stitches.

29. In the next chain two space make a single crochet, a picot and another single crochet.

30. Make three single crochets in the next three stitches.

31. Then repeat. Make two single crochets in the next chain two space and three single crochets in the next three stitches.

32. In the next chain two space make a single crochet, a picot and another single crochet.

33. Make three single crochets in the next three stitches.

34. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

35. At the end of the row make the last single crochet in the turning chain.
Row 4

36. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

37. Make a double crochet in the second stitch.

38. Make another double crochet in the next stitch.

39. Chain two, skip the next single crochet, the picot and the next single crochet, make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

40. Chain two, skip two stitches and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

41. Then repeat. Chain two, skip the next single crochet, the picot and the single crochet, make three double crochets.

42. Chain two, skip two stitches and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

43. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. The row should end with three double crochets.
Row 5

44. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

45. Make a single crochet in the first stitch.

46. Make two single crochets in the next two stitches.

47. In the next chain two space make a single crochet, a picot and a single crochet.

48. Make three single crochets in the next three stitches.

49. Make two single crochets in the next chain two space and three single crochets in the next three stitches.

50. Then repeat. In the next chain two space make a single crochet, a picot and another single crochet.

51. Make three single crochets in the next three stitches.

52. Make two single crochets in the next chain two space and three single crochets in the next three stitches.

53. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

54. At the end of the row make a single crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.
