Chain 3 open picot (ch3 open p)

This free step-by-step crochet tutorial shows how to make a chain 3 open picot (ch3 open p). It is very easy to make and consists of three chains (ch) between two stitches. I use this stitch in my spider coasters. Picots makes your crochet border very cute. The photo tutorial below shows how to make an open picot.

To make a chain 3 closed picot (ch3 closed p), the only thing you need to do is to chain 3 and connect with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first chain. I use chain 3 closed picots in my snowflakes.

Photo instructions

1. Start by making some stitches before your picot. Here I made three single crochets in the first three stitches of this row.

2. Then chain three.

3. Make a single crochet in the next stitch. You have just made a picot!

4. Then make two more single crochets in the next two stitches.

5. To make the second picot, chain three.

6. Make a single crochet in the next stitch and two more single crochets in the next two stitches. Repeat until the end of the row: chain three and make three single crochets in the next three stitches.

Finished chain 3 open picot
