This week I would like to share a free crochet pattern for a crochet phone case Olivia. It is an easy project and it won’t take much time. For my phone case I used only one color, but you could try to mix things up and make in two or several colors. The cluster stitch looks great when you change yarn color every second round.

Materials
- Yarn: any thin yarn will work. I used DIAMOND mercerized cotton 100% 8/4 50g (light lilac).
- Hook: as suggested on your yarn label. I used hook size 2.0.
Abbreviations (US terms)
- sl st: slip stitch
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- sc-blo: single crochet back loop only
- dc3tog: double crochet three together
- prev: previous
- rep * *: repeat from * to *
- st: stitch
Notes
The size of crochet phone case is 7.5 x 13.0 cm. You will be working in rounds. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make the case. For this project I use the cluster stitch, which is a repeat of two rounds and consists only of chains, single crochets and cluster stitches (double crochets three together).
Pattern
Start by chaining until you reach the length that would be equal to the width of your phone. I chained 20. It does not matter, if it is an even or an odd number of stitches. You will work around the chain, therefore the total number of stitches in the first round will end up being an even number in both cases.
Round 1: To make the first round, you will be working down the chain, then turn and work on the other side of the chain. Make sc in every st of the chain starting from the second chain from your hook. Turn. 1 sc in the end of the chain, make sc in every st (starting with the one you have just worked into; now that st has 3 sc in total) until you come back to the beginning of the chain. 1 sc in the end of the chain. Join with a sl st to the first sc of this round. In total you should have 40 st.
Round 2: ch 2, skip one st, *make a sc-blo, ch 1, skip one st*, rep ** until the end of the round, join with a sl st to the ch 2 that you made in the beginning of this round (to the first ch).
Round 3: ch 3, make a dc3tog in the chain one space of the prev round, *ch 1, dc3tog in the next chain one space of the prev round*, rep ** until the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the chain 3 that you made in the beginning of this round.
Round 4: ch 2, skip one st, *make a sc in the space between two dc3tog of the prev round, ch 1*, rep ** until the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the chain 2 that you made in the beginning of this round (to the first ch).
Round 5-26: repeat rounds 3 and 4.
Fasten off.
Photo instructions for a crochet phone case Olivia
1. Chain until you reach the length that is equal to the width of your phone.
Round 1
2. Make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.
3. Keep making single crochets until the end of the row.
4. Then make one single crochet in the end of the row (in the same stitch where you have just made the last single crochet).
5. Turn your work and make one more single crochet in the same stitch.
6. Keep making single crochets until your reach the beginning of this round.
7. Then make one last single crochet in the end of the chain.
8. To join with a slip stitch, insert your hook in the first single crochet of this round.
9. Yarn over and pull the yarn through.
Round 2
10. Chain two.
11. Then skip one stitch and make a single crochet back loop only.
12. Then chain one.
13. Skip one stitch and make a single crochet back loop only.
14. Keep working in the same way until the end of the round, then chain one as usually.
15. Join with a slip stitch to the chain that you make in the beginning of this round.
Round 3
16. Chain three.
17. Yarn over.
18. Insert your hook in the first chain one space of the previous round.
19. Yarn over.
20. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.
21. Yarn over.
22. Pull the yarn through the first two loops. Now you have two loops on your hook.
23. Yarn over.
24. Then insert your hook in the same chain one space.
25. Yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.
26. Yarn over.
27. Then pull the yarn through the first two loops. Now you have three loops on your hook.
28. Yarn over.
29. Insert your hook in the same chain one space.
30. Yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have five loops on your hook.
31. Yarn over.
32. Pull the yarn through the first two loops. Now your have four loops on your hook.
33. Yarn over.
34. Pull the yarn through all four loops on your hook. You have just made a double crochet three together (a cluster stitch).
35. Then chain one.
36. Make a double crochet three together in the next chain one space of the previous round. Chain one.
37. Keep making double crochets three together until the end of the round. For the last cluster stitch don’t chain one.
38. Instead join with a slip stitch to the chain three that you made in the beginning of this round.
Round 4
39. Chain two.
40. Insert your hook into the space between two cluster stitches of the previous round.
41. Make a single crochet.
42. Then chain one.
43. Make a single crochet in the next space between two cluster stitches of the previous round.
44. Keep working in the same way until the end of the round. When you reach the end, chain one as usually.
45. Then join with a slip stitch to the chain two (the first chain) that you made in the beginning. For the rest of the pattern repeat rounds 3 and 4.
