Here is a free crochet pattern for a cute heart. It is really fast to make, so it won’t take long even if you would like to crochet several of them. I made my heart in one color, but you are free to experiment. I think it would look nice too if the last round were in a different color; then it would have a more defined edge.
This pattern requires only a few simple stitches. Perhaps a treble crochet might seem a bit more complicated (if you have never done it before, you can check this tutorial), but in general, the project is suitable for beginners.

Materials
- Yarn: I use grey and peach Madame tricote Almina 8/4 100% cotton yarn 50 g. However, any thin cotton yarn will work.
- Hook: I use a 1.5 mm hook. If you are using a different yarn, choose the hook size that is recommended on your yarn label.
Abbreviations (US terms)
- sl st: slip stitch
- st: stitch
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
- trc: treble crochet
- prev: previous
- rnd: round
- rep **: repeat from * to *
Notes
You will be working in rounds. The size of the heart is 5.5 x 5.0 cm.
Pattern
Start by making an adjustable (magic) ring.
Round 1: ch 3, 1 dc in the magic ring, ch 4; *2 dc in the magic ring, ch 4*, rep ** 3 times, join with a slip stitch.
Round 2: ch 1, 1 sc in the dc of the prev rnd, 4 sc in the ch4 space of the prev rnd; *2 sc in each dc of the prev rnd, 4 sc in the ch4 space of the prev rnd*, rep ** 3 times, join with a sl st.
Round 3:
- ch 1, 3 sc in the 3 sc of the prev rnd, skip the next 3 sc of the prev rnd and make all the following stitches in the fourth sc: 1 trc, *ch 1, 1 trc*, rep ** 5 times.
- Skip 2 sc of the prev rnd and make a sl st in the third sc of the prev rnd.
- Skip 2 sc of the prev rnd and make all the following stitches in the third sc: 1 trc, *ch 1, 1 trc*, rep ** 5 times.
- Skip 2 sc of the prev rnd, make 6 sc in 6 sc of the prev rnd, ch 2, 2 sc in the next two st of the prev rnd, join with a sl st.
Round 4:
- ch 1, 3 sc in the next 3 st of the prev rnd; *1 sc in the trc of the prev rnd, 2 sc in the ch1 space of the prev rnd*, rep ** 5 times. 3 sl st in the next 3 st of the prev rnd; *2 sc in the ch1 space of the prev rnd, 1 sc in the trc of the prev rnd*, rep ** 5 times.
- 6 sc in the next 6 st of the prev rnd. In the ch2 space of the prev rnd: 1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc. Then make 2 sc in the next 2 st of the prev rnd. Join with a sl st.
