Here is a free crochet pattern for a simple crochet coaster Suzette. It is a great project for beginners because you only need to have knowledge of some basic crochet: how to make a chain, a single crochet and a double crochet. I think that the texture of this coaster is really nice. I made it using one color only, but you could experiment and make it, for example, in stripes.
I hope that you will like this simple coaster 🙂

Notes
The size of my coaster is 8.5 x 8.0 cm. You will be working in rows. This pattern uses the Suzette stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch. It consists of single and double crochets. This stitch is reversible, so the coaster looks great from both sides.

Pattern
Start by chaining 24 (you can adjust the size by chaining more or less, just make sure that you have an even number of chains).
Row 1: in the 2nd ch from your hook make: (sc, dc), *skip 1 st, in the next st make: (sc, dc)*, rep ** until the end of the row. At the end of the row skip 1 st, sc in the last st.
Row 2-21: ch 1 (does not count as a st), in the 1st st make: (sc, dc), *skip 1 st, in the next st make: (sc, dc)*, rep ** until the end of the row. At the end of the row skip 1 st, sc in the last st.
Fasten off.
