Suzette stitch in rows and in rounds

In this tutorial I show how to make the Suzette stitch working in rows and in rounds. The Suzette crochet stitch requires to know how to make a chain, a single crochet and a double crochet. This stitch is reversible and looks the same on both sides.

Photo instructions for the Suzette crochet stitch

Suzette stitch in rows

Row 1

1. Start with an odd number of chains. You will start working in the second chain from your hook in the back of the chain like it is shown in the picture.

2. So, make a single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

3. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

4. Skip the next stitch and make a single crochet.

5. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row: skip one stitch, make a single crochet, then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

6. When you reach the end of the row, make one single crochet.

Row 2

7. Then chain one.

8. Turn your work around. Now you will be working in the very first stitch (the last single crochet of the previous row), like it is shown in the picture.

9. So, make one single crochet.

10. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

11. Skip one stitch and make a single crochet.

12. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

13. Keep working in the same way until the end of the row.

14. To finish the row, skip one stitch and make one single crochet.

15. Repeat row 2 until you reach the desired size of your item.

Suzette stitch in rounds

Round 1

1. You can use this stitch when you work in rounds too. In this example, I start with any number of chains. Then I made single crochets around the chain (I ended up with an even number of stitches in one round). Instead, you can just make a chain and join the ends. In this case you should have an even number of chains. This will be your base for working in rounds.

2. Chain one. It will count as the first single crochet.

3. Then make a double crochet in the very first stitch.

4. Skip one stitch and make a single crochet.

5. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

6. Continue working in the same way until the end of the round: skip one stitch, make a single crochet and then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

7. In the end of the round join with a slip stitch to the chain that you made in the beginning of this round.

Round 2

8. Then chain one.

9. Make a double crochet in the very first stitch. Then continue working in the same way until the end of the round: skip one stitch, make a single crochet and then make a double crochet in the same stitch.

Working in continuous rounds
Round 1

1. Alternatively you can work in continuous rounds. In this case, when you are at the end of the round, don’t join with a slip stitch.

Round 2

2. Instead make a single crochet in the top of the very first stitch of the previous round.

3. Then make a double crochet in the same stitch. Continue working in the same way: skip one stitch, make a single crochet and then make a double crochet in the same stitch. Remember to mark the beginning of each each round.
