This is a free crochet pattern for a crochet cowl Melissa. This cowl is very easy to make and it is a great beginner crochet project. For this pattern I use the lemon peel stitch which consists of single and double crochets. It is a repeat of one round and works up quite fast. I hope that you will give it a try.
For this cowl I use Yarn & Friends Akryl print polyacryl 100% yarn, 100 g/250 m, color: 4292 (1 skein) and a 4.0 mm hook. However, you can choose your favorite yarn that is not very thin and it will work just fine.

Notes
The length of my cowl is 70.0, and the height is 17.0 cm. You will work in rounds. After each round you will turn your work around to crochet in the other direction. This pattern uses the lemon peel stitch. The photo instructions below show how to make this stitch. You can adjust the length of your cowl by chaining an even number of chains until you reach the desired length. To adjust the height of the cowl, repeat round 2 until you reach the desired height. It is a reversible crochet stitch and it looks the same on both sides.

Pattern
Start by chaining an even number of chains until you reach the desired length. I chained 110 (the length of my cowl is 70 cm). Then join to the beginning of the chain with a sl st (make sure that the chain is not twisted before you join).
Round 1: ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in the 1st st, dc in the next st, *sc in the next st, dc in the next st*, rep ** until the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc of this round.
Round 2: ch 1 (does not count as a st) and turn your work around. Sc in the 1st dc of the prev round, dc in the next st, *sc in the next st, dc in the next st*, rep ** until the end of the round. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc of this round.
Round 3-30: repeat round 2.
Fasten off.

Joining the ends of the chain

1. Start by chaining 110 (or any even number of chains until you reach your desired length).

3. Pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.

4. Pull the first loop through the second one. You have just made a slip stitch.
Round 1

5. Chain one. It does not count as a stitch.

6. Make a single crochet in the very first stitch (the same stitch where you have just made a slip stitch).

7. Then make a double crochet in the next stitch.

8. Make a single crochet in the next stitch.

9. Make a double crochet in the next stitch.

10. Then repeat. Make a single crochet and then make a double crochet.

11. Continue working in the same way until the end of the round.

12. Then insert your hook in the top of the first single crochet and yarn over.

13. Pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook.

14. Pull the first loop through the second one. You have just joined with a slip stitch.
Round 2

15. Chain one and turn your work around to crochet in the other direction. Chain one does not count as a stitch.

16. Make a single crochet in the first double crochet of the previous round.

17. Make a double crochet in the next stitch.

18. Then repeat. Make a single crochet in the next stitch.

19. Make a double crochet in the next stitch.
