Cross stitch Christmas tree

Here is a free crochet pattern for a Christmas ornament: cross stitch Christmas tree with a star. You could attach it to your packed Christmas presents as a nice detail or just hang it on your Christmas tree as a decoration. The pattern is easy, so even beginners can make this project pretty fast.

The pattern includes a list of materials, abbreviations, notes, a written pattern, and a chart. I use cross stitch double crochet, which adds interesting texture to this piece. If you are not familiar with this stitch, you can check the tutorial that I prepared earlier (here). I also use this stitch in my cross stitch dishcloth, so if you want to practice it, that could be a great project too.

Cross stitch Christmas tree

Materials

  • Yarn: I use white Eldorado cotton thread and dark Anchor Freccia thread. However, any thin cotton yarn will work.
  • Hook: I use a 1.5 mm hook. If you are using a different yarn, choose the hook size that is recommended on your yarn label.

Abbreviations (US terms)

Notes

To make a Christmas tree, you will first work in rows, then in rounds. To make a star, you will be working in rounds. The size of the Christmas tree triangle is 6.8 x 8.5 cm, and the diameter of the star is 3 cm.
