Lemon peel stitch coaster

This free crochet pattern for a lemon peel stitch coaster is perfect for beginners. It is a repeat of one row and you only have to make single and double crochets. Nevertheless, the texture looks very nice. It is also a good way to practice the lemon peel stitch.

Good luck!

Materials

  • Yarn: any thin yarn will work. I used Järbo 8/4 100% Cotton “Mercerized & Gassed” 50 g (green).
  • Hook: as suggested on your yarn label. I used hook size 2.0.

Notes

The size of my coaster is 8.5 x 8.0 cm. You will be working in rows. This pattern uses the lemon peel stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch. It is a repeat of one row. The size of the coaster can be easily adjusted by chaining more or less in the beginning (keep in mind that it should be an odd number of chains) and repeating row 2 until you will form a nice rectangle.

Pattern

Start by chaining 23 (you can adjust the size by chaining more or less, but it should be an odd number of chains).

Row 1: In the second chain from your hook make a sc (in the back of the chain). Then make a dc in the next st, *sc, dc*, rep * * until the end of the row.

Row 2: ch 1 (it does not count as a st), *sc, dc*, rep * * until the end of the row.

Row 3-18: repeat row 2.

Fasten off.
