The large basket weave stitch

In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the large basket weave stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes photo instructions and a video tutorial (see below). For this crochet stitch you should know how to make a double crochet. The tutorial below shows how to make a front post double crochet and a back post double crochet. The large basket weave stitch is a repeat of four rows. The fabric has a very beautiful texture.

For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: sand, and a 2.0 mm hook.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of eight. You will start working in the fourth chain from your hook.

2. So, make a double crochet in the fourth chain from your hook.

3. Continue making double crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

Row 2

4. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch, so you will start working in the second stitch.

5. Next you will make a back post double crochet. So, yarn over.

6. Insert your hook bringing the post of the second double crochet of the previous row to the back.

7. Yarn over.

8. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

9. Yarn over.

10. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

11. Yarn over.

12. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made a back post double crochet!

13. Make three more back post double crochets in the next three stitches. Next you will make a front post double crochet in the next stitch.

14. So, yarn over.

15. Insert your hook bringing the post of the next stitch to the front.

16. Yarn over.

17. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

18. Yarn over.

19. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

20. Yarn over.

21. Pull the yarn through both loops. You have just made a front post double crochet!

22. Make three more front post double crochets in the next three stitches.

23. Then make four back post double crochets in the next four stitches.

24. Make four front post double crochets in the next four stitches.

25. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

26. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain.

Row 3

27. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch, so you will start working in the second stitch.

28. Make four front post double crochets in the next four stitches.

29. Then make four back post double crochets in the next four stitches.

30. Make four front post double crochets.

31. Then make four back post double crochets.

32. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

33. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain.

Row 4

34. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

35. Make four front post double crochets.

36. Then make four back post double crochets.

37. Then make four front post double crochets.

38. Make four back post double crochets in the next four stitches.

39. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

40. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain.

Row 5

41. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

42. Then make four back post double crochets.

43. Make four front post double crochets.

44. Then make four back post double crochets.

45. Make four front post double crochets.

46. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

47. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.
