The mini basket weave stitch

In this step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the mini basket weave stitch. This crochet stitch tutorial includes photo instructions and a video tutorial (see below). For this crochet stitch you should know how to make a double crochet. The tutorial below shows how to make a back post double crochet and a front post double crochet. The mini basket weave stitch is a repeat of four rows. The fabric has a beautiful texture and it is quite thick. It is a reversible crochet stitch and it looks the same on both sides.

For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: blue agave, and a 2.0 mm hook.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of four plus two. You will start working in the fourth chain from your hook.

2. So, make a double crochet in the fourth chain from your hook.

3. Continue making double crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

Row 2

4. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch, so you will start working in the second stitch.

5. Next you will make a back post double crochet. So, yarn over.

6. Insert your hook bringing the post of the second double crochet of the previous row to the back.

7. Yarn over.

8. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

9. Yarn over.

10. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

11. Yarn over.

12. Pull the yarn through both loops on your hook. You have just made a back post double crochet!

13. Make another back post double crochet in the next stitch. Next you will make a front post double crochet in the next stitch.

14. So, yarn over.

15. Insert your hook bringing the post of the next stitch to the front.

16. Yarn over.

17. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

18. Yarn over.

19. Pull the yarn through the first two loops on your hook. Now you have two loops on your hook.

20. Yarn over.

21. Pull the yarn through both loops. You have just made a front post double crochet!

22. Make another front post double crochet in the next stitch.

23. Then make two back post double crochets in the next two stitches.

24. Make two front post double crochets in the next two stitches.

25. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

26. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain.

Row 3

27. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch, so you will start working in the second stitch.

28. Make two front post double crochets in the next two stitches.

29. Then make two back post double crochets in the next two stitches.

30. Make two front post double crochets.

31. Then make two back post double crochets.

32. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

33. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain.

Row 4

34. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

35. Make two front post double crochets.

36. Then make two back post double crochets.

37. Then make two front post double crochets.

38. Make two back post double crochets in the next two stitches.

39. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

40. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain.

Row 5

41. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.

42. Then make two back post double crochets.

43. Make two front post double crochets.

44. Then make two back post double crochets.

45. Make two front post double crochets.

46. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.

47. At the end of the row make a double crochet in the turning chain. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-5.
