Photo instructions for the leafhopper crochet stitch

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of four plus three.

2. In the fourth chain from your hook make a double crochet.

3. Continue making double crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

4. Then chain three.

Row 2

5. Turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch, so you will start working in the second stitch.

6. Make a double crochet in the second stitch.

7. Next you will make a cluster stitch with two legs. The first leg you will make working around the double crochet post in the previous row that is below the double crochet you have just made. To make the second leg you will skip one double crochet in the previous row and work around the post of the next double crochet. So, yarn over.

8. Insert your hook bringing the post of the double crochet in the previous row (the one that is below the double crochet that you have just made) forward.

9. Yarn over.

10. Pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook.

28. Pull the yarn through all three loops. You have just made a cluster stitch!

29. Next you will skip one stitch and work in the next one (the one that is above the second leg of the cluster).

30. So, skip one stitch and make a double crochet in the next stitch.

31. Then make two more double crochets in the next two stitches. Next you will make another cluster stitch. You will work in the double crochet that is below the double crochet you have just made, skip one double crochet and work in the next one to make the second leg of the cluster stitch.

33. Then skip one stitch and make the second leg in the next double crochet of the previous row in the same way as before.

34. Complete the cluster stitch by yarning over and pulling the yarn through all three loops on your hook.

35. Then skip one stitch (the one that is hiding behind the cluster stitch) and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.

36. Then make another cluster stitch.

37. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row until you have three stitches left (the turning chain counts as a stitch).

38. Then make the last cluster stitch.

39. As usually, skip one stitch. Next you will work in the last double crochet of the previous row and the turning chain.
