The millstone stitch

In this step-by-step crochet tutorial I show how to make the millstone crochet stitch. This stitch is not very complicated to make, you just need to know how to make a single crochet, a half double crochet and a double crochet. Photo instructions below show in detail how to make a long double crochet.

For this stitch you will need at least two colors. The millstone crochet stitch works well with multiple colors too: you can use a different color for every row of stones.

Row 1

1. Start by chaining a multiple of ten plus two.

2. In the second chain from your hook make a single crochet.

3. Continue making single crochets in every stitch until the end of the row.

4. At the end of the row you have to change yarn color. So, take your second color yarn and chain one. Then pull the end of the first color yarn to tighten and secure the second color yarn. Now your second color yarn is ready to use.

Row 2
