Crochet e-Reader case “Trinity”

I am happy to present my new crochet pattern for an e-Reader case! I call it “Trinity” case, because in this pattern I use the trinity stitch, which now is one of my favorites. If you haven’t tried this stitch before, take a look at my recent tutorial here.

Now that the days are getting a bit colder, it feels so nice to sit on a sofa wrapped in a blanket with a cup of tea or coffee and a good book. Even though I like reading paper books a lot, I absolutely love my e-Reader too. I think that it is especially convenient to take it with you on a trip. Since I take my e-Reader with me often, I decided to make this cute crochet case (or sleeve) for it. If you like this pattern but you don’t have e-Reader, you can make the case narrower and use it for your glasses or phone.

This crochet project is quite easy and suits for beginners.

Good luck!

Materials

  • Yarn: any thin yarn will work. I used DIAMOND 8/4 mercerized cotton 100% 50 g. Colors: 201 (white) and 3304 (dark lilac).
  • Hook: as suggested on your yarn label. I used hook size 2.0.

Notes

The size of my crochet case is 11.5 x 17.0 cm.

You will be working in rounds. This pattern uses the trinity stitch. Photo instructions below show the main steps how to make this stitch working in rounds. It consists of only one row that you should repeat until you reach the desired height. The trinity stitch is easy to make and it is suitable for beginners.

To start the case, you should make a chain, which length should be equal to the width of your e-Reader (it does not matter if the number of chains is even or odd). After making a few rounds, check if your e-Reader fits well. If not, adjust the length of the chain as needed. Try not to make the case too tight or it might be hard to put the e-Reader in and take it out. The width of my e-Reader is 11.0 cm and I chained 28.

Changing yarn color

There are two ways of changing the yarn color:

  • Option 1: At the end of the round before changing the color, make a sl st with the new color. Ch 1 and continue with the pattern. (See pictures 16-17 in the photo instructions below)
  • Option 2: Finish the round with the current color, i.e. make a sl st with the current color. Then take the new color and ch 1. Now pull the previous color yarn to secure the new color yarn. In this way the sl st in the previous color becomes very small and the chain in the new color replaces it. Therefore you have to ch 1 again and continue with the pattern. (See pictures 18-19 in the photo instructions below).

I prefer the second option.

Pattern

Start by chaining 28 with lilac yarn.

Round 1: To make the first round, you will be working down the chain, then turn and work on the other side of the chain. Make sc in every st of the chain starting from the second chain from your hook. Turn. 1 sc in the end of the chain, make sc in every st (starting with the one you have just worked into; now that st has 3 sc in total) until you come back to the beginning of the chain. 1 sc in the end of the chain. Join with a sl st to the first sc of this round. In total you should have 56 st.

Round 2-11: trinity stitch. Join with a sl st.

Change to white yarn.

Round 12-14: ch 1 (it does not count as a st), hdc in every st of the prev round. Join with a sl st.

Change to lilac yarn.

Round 15-17: trinity stitch, Join with a st sl.

Change to white yarn.

Round 18-38: ch 1 (it does not count as a st), hdc in every st of the prev round. Join with a sl st.

Fasten off.

Photo instructions for the crochet case

Round 1

1. Start with a chain.

2. Then make sc around the chain and join with a sl st. You should have 56 st in total.

Round 2

3. Chain one.

4. Next make a single crochet in the first stitch. The picture shows in which stitches you will be working next.

5. So, insert your hook in the st where you have just made a single crochet. Yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook. Then insert your hook in the next st, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook. Finally insert your hook in the next st, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.

6. Next yarn over and pull the yarn through all four loops.

7. Then chain one and work in the stitches that are indicated in the picture.

8. Insert your hook in the last st you have just worked in, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have two loops on your hook. Then insert your hook in the next st, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have three loops on your hook. Finally insert your hook in the next st, yarn over and pull the yarn through. Now you have four loops on your hook.

9. Yarn over and pull the yarn through all four loops. Chain one.

10. Continue until the end of the round. When you reach the end, don’t chain one as usually.

11. Instead connect with a sl st to the first single crochet of this round.

Round 3

12. Then chain one and make a single crochet in the very first st. Next work in the stitches as indicated in the picture.

13. So, work in the st where you have just made a single crochet, then in the next two stitches. You have four loops on your hook again.

14. Yarn over, pull the yarn through all four loops and chain one. Keep working in the same way.

Round 10

15. This is how the trinity stitch looks after a few rounds.

Round 11

16. This is the first option how to change the yarn color. At the end of round 11 stop before making the sl st.

17. Make the slip st with white yarn. Then ch 1 and make hdc until the end of the round.

Round 14

18. This is the second option how to change the yarn color. Complete round 14 with white yarn, i.e. make a sl st with your white yarn.

Round 15

19. Ch 1 with the lilac yarn.

20. Then pull the white yarn tight and secure the lilac yarn. Since the slip stitch became very small, ch 1 in lilac yarn replaces it. Therefore you have to ch 1 with your lilac yarn again and continue with the pattern.
